If Monny doesn’t play primarily with a Johnny this year, I put his chances of getting 60 points as very slim, considering his injury history and the fact that his production has been essentially tied to Johnny his entire career.
Now, if Calgary trades for Eichel, Monny is healthy, and plays with Eichel, that’s his perfect storm. But I think all those happening are unlikely.
Monny has a unique skill when healthy to be sure, the ability to shoot and score. But injuries have robbed him of that skill, and it remains to be seen if he can get that skill back. Plus, he needs to play with a playmaker.

I agree with this. It will depend on who Mony plays with if he has a chance to get 60 plus points. While I’m not the coach, I have him pencilled in playing with Dube and Lucic/ Plitnik . Pretty much 3rd line and 1st PP unit. Could be tough.

He also had 12 assists. Are you saying this is what we can expect from Monahan?
I'm saying Sean Monahan has been a big problem for this team for awhile now. Hes such a one dimensional player, although the dimension of scoring goals is the best one to have, he just doesn't do much of it anymore. He had 10 goals last year. 10. If hes not scoring most nights he is completely invisible. Like complete ghost.
Of course it goes both ways as Gaudreau and Monahan have been together for longer than most linemates in the league. Johnny has always drove that offense. As weve seen in multiple playoffs, key on Johnny, Monahan gets neutered. Just invisible. If Johnny had another threat on his line that could create or drive some offense I believe things would/could have been different.
My original point was Monahans value will wilt even further without Gaudreau as his winger, or you saddle Gaudreau with Monahan again and we see the same crap play out.
Either way I believe the time to trade Monahan was yesterday.

I would take a large bet with someone that Monahan will easily outscore Bennett next year, regardless of who they respectively play with.

The team that got curb stomped in the first round of the playoffs? No thanks.

I would be prepared to take that bet.
I'm not saying it's a slam dunk for sure, but I think that with Monny's injury history and uncertainly of line mates, it's a good gamble.
And it would be a bet I hope I lose LOL.

I'd bet Bennett out scores and out points Monahan.
I've just lost all faith in Monahan and also have an unhealthy interest in the progression of Bennett's career.

I'll definitely take that bet. In fact, I will bet that Monahan gets as many goals as Bennett gets points, providing he stays healthy.

If Monahan isn't playing 1st line and with Gaudreau I would be inclined to take Bennett given the talent he will be playing with.

I very highly doubt you get that again under a Sutter coached team.
Heck I'd be willing to bet today's roster under a full season of Darryl probably even wins a round despite some holes in the roster...

If they make the playoffs the first round is likely to be against EDM/VAN/LAK. I think they have a decent chance beating any of those teams in a best of 7. I can’t see them winning against VGK, but I thought the same about MTL.

Yeah if they are going Gaudreau-Lindholm-Tkachuk...
And Florida goes Huberdeau - Bennett - Reinhart...
Then Bennett should probably get more points than Monahan next year, those are some killer wingers.

Battle of the overrated.
I bet they both underwhelm regardless of who they play with.

So I’m clear some of you are saying not only do you expect Monahan to be a sub 40 point player and have by far the worst season of his career but you also expect Bennett to blow his own career best totals out of the water. The Story of Sam may be approaching the Legend of Lack

Sean Monahan produced 1.98 points/60 at even strength during his rookie season when paired with Jiri Hudler (would have ranked him 1st on the team), which from my recollection is literally the only time in which Monahan has seen consistent time with a legitimate top six talent away from Gaudreau.
If anything getting him away from that combination that clearly no longer works with Johhny and some random plug on the right side will only benefit his production which has taken a complete nosedive at even strength the past two years.
Put him with any combination of Mangiapane/Tkachuk/Coleman and I guarantee his rates at even strength will* increase.

Exactly. Other than McAvi and Raisaitl, which other centre in the league was a PPG scorer while playing with wingers who would be minor leaguers on any other team? Heck, the Flames would have been better off shorthanded than playing some of the players who filled in as Monahan's RW last season. This will NOT happen with Sutter coaching.

That was his rookie ####ing season on the Flames rebuild B team.
Monahan bashers are honestly so out to lunch sometimes, meanwhile you hold other players to completely different standards.
Man, you're gonna feel so dumb when he holds his own just fine on another team.

I think they'll sign Mackey and then sign an addition one or two players - possibly from a PTO.
