That’s rediculous.

He scored 22 goals in a year that he didn't play one second with Gaudreau

I don’t know, it’s starting to look more like St Louis got hot at the right time riding an unsustainable goalie after being the worst team in the league that season.
Signing Faulk then letting Peitrangelo walk, big money to Binnington who’s looking like he’s trending to be average, how he’s dealt with Tarasenko, and even the Parayeko contract with that kind of term.
I’m not saying he’s awful, but not a fan of really any of his body of work the past 2 years.

And that was his first season in the NHL. It was before injuries, and before the NHL adjusted to covering him in front of the net. The book is out... no matter what you do, don't let Monahan get the puck in front of the net. Everyone knows that he's the trigger-man. He finished last season on a line away from Gaudreau, and on PP2. If that's how he is used again, I can't even pencil in a 20 goals season.
It's up to Monahan to make adjustments. Let's hope he recovers back to 100%, and starts shooting the puck like before. Hopefully he will find a way to be a bit more mobile too, especially when it comes to just staying stationary and battling in front of the net waiting for a pass.
PS: I don't hate on Monahan. I love his heart, and respect everything he has done for the team. He was an elite goalscorer, and I hope he can come back to that. I truly have no idea which Monahan we will get this season though.

do you even read the posts I am quoting and responding to?
"propped up his entire career by Gaudreau"
was the quote and I said he scored 22 without Gaudreau in the league. He was wrong /

Does it matter if he can't do it now? Do it now because its irrelevant what he did 8 years ago.

Armstrong is definetly a good GM, but id go as far as to trust Ricardodw to be the GM of team Canada and get a top 2 finish. Anyone could do it.

Yes, I did read the post you responded to. Yes, Monahan wasn't propped up his entire career by Gaudreau, only in 7 out of 8 seasons. The poster meant that he benefited from playing with Gaudreau for the majority of his career. Yes, he was wrong, but it gets very tiring when you have to lawyer proof every single post. Do you disagree with the fact that Monahan has benefited from playing with Gaudreau? In my opinion they benefited from playing with each other, and I don't entierly agree with Gaudreau doing absolutely all the work in that duo. What production do you expect from Monahan away from Gaudreau? I honestly am trying to understand where you are coming from... that's why I actually explained that in my eyes Monahan's production can be anything next season.

Yes they have benefited from playing with each other...they would have been short handed had the other player not been out there.
My frustration comes when people act like Monahan is barely an NHLer...everyone's favorite Sam Bennett did jack #### playing with Gaudreau, same with a countless cast of others. Its pretty silly to discount his entire career because he plays with another good player. What top scorer doesn't? I would argue both Gaudreau and Monahan have actually suffered not having a quality RWer to play with.
My Prediction is Monahan has 60+ points...here or elsewhere

Man I wish I had your optimism. I really hope things work out that way. As for a RW, I thought they tried returning to Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm this season but it was a lot less effective than Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk. They were also skating with Tkachuk after being on the PK, that also didn't help generate much offense.
I don't think anyone thinks that Monahan is barely an NHLer. I think the trade value of Monahan comes from fans not being sure about him being a $6.375M player in the next two seasons. For example Lindholm is arguably the most valuable forward on the team, but if he was paid $10M a season instead of about 5 he would have a lot less value in trade.

I think Gaudreau and Monahan got stale playing with one another. They got comfortable doing the same things that have worked over the years but I think teams have wised up and figured out how to limit their effectiveness together.
I think Monahan can still be a solid top 6 C but the team needs to stop playing low end players in their top 6. Guys like Ritchie and Simon should have never been anywhere near the top two lines.
Tkachuk, Lindholm, Gaudreau, Monahan, Mangiapane, Coleman, Dube and Backlund are all solid players so I don’t think we will have the same problem this season.
I do still expect a trade to happen so we shall see how it all shakes out..

Is Monahan even healthy this year. Didn’t he have to have another surgery on his hip?

a $6M player is not your grand daddy's $6M star player
Zach Hyman has a career high of 41 points playing with Matthews and Marner and makes 5.5M

So who gets more points next year, Monahan or Bennett?
Monahan is propped up by Gaudreau and Bennett by Huberdeau
