I guess these are extenuating circumstances though.

Regardless, keeping as much of their Cup run team intact from this point forward and adding a solid 2C and still having space seems to be the best plan for them moving forward. Plus adding Byron back to the lineup.
I suppose they could move Anderson (albeit within his MTNC) or Toffoli instead but I would think they'd move Armia first. IMO Hoffman is who I'd move but he's just signed as well. Actually I'd try to move Gallagher because he's overpaid IMO.

Hertl reportedly unhappy with Sharks according to Sharks Athletic writer.

The Trocheck trade was a nice one for the Canes. Hertl would be a nice plan B if the Flames missed out on Eichel.

Does anyone know if this means he is upset that they have not removed Kane from the team? Or is he on Kane’s side and thinks he’s not being treated fairly. All it says that is that he is unhappy with the situation.

I like Eichel, but I would be more intrigued with Hertl on this team. I think he would be Sutter’s favorite player. Having him and Lindholm down the middle would be terrifying for the opposing team. Both are two-way puck hounds.

I live in San Jose and can shed some light. It's option 1. Hertl (and 3 other players) are not happy with Kane still being in San Jose. Some are considering leaving or asking to be dealt if he is still there.

Kane put up his house for sale yesterday and in the last 2 days his divorce has gotten really ugly in the media. His wife a few months ago made claims against Kane saying he abandoned them. In the last few days he has made accusations against her saying she physically assaulted him.

Hertl has an NTC and is a UFA after this season, so he best not be expensive. Certainly wouldn't mind adding him, and IIRC we have been linked to him in the past... though it may have been through Eklund lol.

Doubt anyone could be on Kane’s side.

I’d rather have Hertl and the $4.375 million cap room. That’s another pretty good player.

Hertl’s neck isn’t broken too.

A Mangiapane - Hertl - Coleman line would be pretty solid, behind Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk.

That leaves Monahan as the odd ball out… however, if you can get Hertl, IIRC he can also play wing. So, have him, Lindholm, and Monahan rotate the top 2 center positions:

Gaudreau - Lindholm/Hertl - Tkachuk
Hertl/Coleman - Monahan/Hertl - Coleman/Lindholm
Dube - Backlund - Mangiapane
Lucic - Lewis - Pitlick
Ruzicka

Moving Mangiapane down to the third line with Backlund and Dube would be ridiculous depth

That looks pretty confusing. I think if Hertl came in Monahan would be leaving.

You’d have enough cap room with the current space to pick up another fairly good player.

With having the likes of Pelletier and zary and a few others knocking on the door.

Like it way better than Eichel.

What would be the equivalent package from the Flames that Trochek got?

It would have to be a three way deal, because I don’t see San José accepting Monahan in return.

I was just doing a lineup with Hertl hypothetically there, maybe at 50% retention. But I guess if we were to pony up for an in-division two way star center, it’s probably going to only cost slightly less than eichel when all is said and done.

Where would Monahan get moved? Montreal? San José takes retention from Monahan so the Habs can fit him in?

I am not sure it would be much more than Dube and a few B-ish prospects (Petterson? Emil?). I thought the Panthers were hosed on that one.

Edit: That might be too much as I think Dube>Wallmark. No idea on the prospect part of the equation.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.
