If the Ducks include one of Zegras/Drysdale and the 2023 1st round pick and whatever other scrubs, I think that's probably deal the Sabres want.
Zegras/Drysdale are bluechip prospects and that 1st round pick has a high chance of being a top 3 pick.
Every other team probably needs to send cap back or out to make it work but I think the Ducks don't have to. They also have a bunch of quality veterans who are UFA who they could easily move to make more cap space if needed.
|
If the Ducks were offering that, I think the deal would be done.
the Sabres are way below the floor and either need to take salary back in the Eichel deal, or make other deals to acquire salary (likely both)

This only further illustrates my point. Not too many GMs looking to do their biggest work a few weeks out from camp, especially when it changes the entire composition of the team.
By this stage rosters are ~95% set, with tweaks as far as things like PTO's.

I'm not picking on Flames management. I don't see your angle.

It's of course, a different year than normal. Everyone lost about a month of the usual period between the draft and also the UFA day and the season opener. Plus there was an expansion draft which gummed things up.

Well not often but arguably the last time was with Sutter involved. Langkow was acquired in late August, for Gauthier and Saprykin. and then he was traded for Stempniak at a similar time.
Before that, Gilmour/Hunter/Bozek, I suppose. Before that, Macrimmon.

Am I missing something or is my math not right somehow...
$84,723,968
$3,223,968 over cap
$3,200,000 Klefbom
$23,968 over cap
$785,000 Stalock
$761,032 under cap
$725,000 Lagesson
$1,486,032 under cap - still not enough
$834,167 McLeod
$2,320,199 under cap - I don't think that signs Yam (maybe for a 1 year bridge)

Here's hoping there is more lifting to be done. Agreed on the shortened offseason factor that's affecting things as well, which skews the data.

Eichel and the flat cap combination is a weird enough situation that there could be some decent roster turnover across the league as there have been rumblings Buffalo would take roster players to flip to other teams if Eichel is traded. If the roster is set it is disappointing as I was hoping for few more changes in the forward group but feels more and more likely every day Eichel is a Sabre. At least the Flames haven't traded substantial futures.

I appreciate these advanced stats displays. However, it’s important to note what they are (which is a picture of how the player has performed in the recent past) and not how he will perform going forward, sometimes in a new situation. Tanev’s stats are an example, and I’d think this is even more so with a young guy still learning the ropes, like Dube.

I have high hope for Dube
But I also had high hope for Bennett, so what do I know…
Or maybe I know something

This is a "potential" deal, a la Sam Bennett. Dube has to live up to the expectations of the deal or he'll be gone. I believe he'll hit the mark.

If Dube can stay away from concussions he’s gonna be a good one.

I think we will finally see the full potential of Sam Bennett now. He will be used in a top 6 role all the time, and flourish

That is my biggest concern about him. I think Dube will be a good middle 6 forward if he can stay healthy.
