I loved Returnal and was able to get through the entire game so I thought I was in for a treat when Hades came to game pass, but I can’t seem to get into it. Just doesn’t feel fun to me and I’m not sure why

Yeah it's weird, if they love a game so much they should be excited more people get to play it

Other than both of the games being a roguelike they are very different types of games. Third person shooter vs top down dungeon crawler, I can see why some who enjoy Returnal may not like Hades and vice versa.
Being an avid Diablo player, Hades just comes to me as such better game and has way more replay value. Also, the ability to play Hades on my laptop via cloud gaming at my Mom's house when I spend weekends with her is unbeatable.

Hades is straight up more fun and has more interesting stuff going on between runs. It looks simpler on the surface but is actually more complex.

Maybe I just haven’t given it enough time, but I am finding that the minute to minute gameplay just isn’t as fun or rewarding for me. I’m going to give it more attention though and maybe it will click.

I actually just started replaying Ghost a couple weeks ago for the first time in a year and had no idea of the new expansion, I can't wait to seamlessly slide into Iki once I'm done the main story again.
On a side note, while playing the main story regularly, it was clear seeing the graphical upgrades and new animations made to the main story itself as well on last week's big update. Everything just looks crisper, colours more vibrant...even little things, like the fox has new animations when you pet him, etc. Forgot how good this game is.

The haptic controller update is also great. Such an awesome feature.

Ubisoft+ is currently $1 for the first month until the 31st. I finally get a chance to try AC: Valhalla.

This is probably my biggest reason for the upgrade. It's silly, but it's also everything to me.

I don't think I ever played the 1st one. Is it a requirement to really enjoy? Or if I read some kind of summary of the first would I be good to go?

I did not play the first one, this one does provide a pretty good summary of events before starting though.
It does just kind of throw you in with these characters so it's a bit jarring, but it's all fairly light-hearted and fun so it's easy to pick up on pretty quick.

I was giving it a shot last night and while it's fun I couldn't fully get into it.
Maybe just need to give it more time, but the art style just isn't really something I like so maybe that's what's preventing me from liking it more.

Also, how does the $1 gamepass ultimate thing work? Like if I buy a year of XBL Gold, I get that full year of gamepass for $1? Can I buy like 3 years up front?
|
Yep, max is 36 months...buy the 3 years of gold and activate them
then go here and upgrade it all for a buck. Costco and Amazon are usually cheapest for XBL Gold.
You can do it if you had gamepass ultimate in the past as long as its now expired...might have to pay $16 instead of $1 though.
