A lot of that is how good the Jays pitching has been so credit where credit is due but I think the White Sox will fizzle fast in the playoffs.
That being said...A win! Alejandro Kirk was a little wrecking ball at the plate and deserved more than one hit tonight. Glad he at least drove in the winning runs for his effort.

Irony here is it looks like TB is going to have the best record and might end up facing the toughest opponent in the wild card team. Houston then gets to cruise past the White Sox in the first round.

Great win for the boys.
I thought the key to the game was that Montoyo didn't pull Ray in the 7th after giving up a couple hits (and sitting on 100+ pitches), he let Ray get out of it himself. And get out of it Mr Ray did! Way to go Charlie!
And then a great 8th inning from Mayza to back him up and get it to Romano. Tremendous pitching throughout.

I liked Gibby as a person (he was a better coach than Montoyo but not exactly top tier) and he said this about the bullpen:
"There are nights when the starter’s good and maybe the numbers dictate that he needs to be taken out at this point. But every time that you do that, somebody else is pitching. It catches up to those guys in the bullpen more than it does the starters. So why not try to stretch the starter out as long as I can, maybe buy an inning or two, get those (relievers) the night off, and if things get hairy I’ve got my go-to guy waiting there."
I generally agree with Gibby.

Fully agree with Gibby. It has been my primary beef on Montoyo all year. And I think it has been a root cause of many of the other problems.

The way this team is wilting down the stretch is not leaving me very optimistic about next season.
Vlad has been a total turd since the all-star break, Bo not much better, and two key pieces of what is supposed to be next years rotation keep getting shelled repeatedly in Ryu and Berrios.
Our best SP and best position player are both slated to be free agents. lol
Yikes.
Oh yeah, and our division is an absolute nightmare.

He has been much worse actually, but flies under the radar for whatever reason.

Ryu seems to crumble when we need him the most. Not ace material.

It is crazy that we have both our FA signings (I know Ray was resigned technically) end up amazing.
We get great pitching from a rookie starter who wasn't expect to have any impact
We get a MVP season from Vlad for the 1st 100 games.
And we are 5 games out of the playoffs.
It is certainly worrisome if you consider the team could loose Ray and Siemen next season and will have to improve by 10 games without them.
I really hope Rogers opens the wallet and signs Ray. Siemen we could let go and replace with another infielder as there are lots of the market.

My biggest pipe dream for an infielder FA signing is Correa, but that seems unlikely with Bichette already at SS. Maybe he and Springer are buds and he can be persuaded to come to TO and play 3rd for lots and lots of money.
Hell, Correa is only 3 years older than Bo. What an add that'd be.

This is what drives me nuts about Montoyo...
They work their way back into the game, and he has a pitcher who's dealing (4 outs on 12 pitches), and he pulls him for Soria.
