The biggest difference between Farkas and Davison is one is anti-investment and the other is pro-investment. Farkas voted against BMO Expansion and Event Center right? In his own riding.
I also see a lot of Davison signs up but I live in his riding.

Anything in particular you’d care to share? I’m leaning Branagan and had an amiable chat with her on the phone recently.

Nothing I can, really, as I personally didn’t meet her. But my wife was so put off from meeting her while not in campaign mode that she recoiled when she saw her campaign mailer on our table.

Anyone else in Ward 1? I've only seen a small number of signs, mainly for Sonya Sharp and the City candidate site shows a couple other dudes running whose websites were short on details/tangible plans.
All the candidates have the same mantra of trying to reduce taxes and keep service/infrastructure spending the same/growing, while finding efficiencies. Pretty disappointing plans, and lack of vision all things considered.

All of the efficiency people should be asked will they cut the Police budget in the face of the Union and Management stating it will cut boots on the ground, response time, and increase crime.

I'm in the same Ward 1 boat as you. Pretty slim pickings at this point. I think I found one of the candidates website (Gaz Qamar) and at the end of her "introduction" in bold is reads "We can’t afford another term of Ward Sutherland!" I guess she's unaware he's decided not to run? Not very promising.

That's funny as my wife had the same experience with Branagan and a lot of people I know have. She is very confrontational and mean is the trend. Think of a Karen type middle aged woman who's in it for herself and not her ward.
I know people involved with the Haysboro Community Association that were on the board with her and won't be voting for her. She got divorced and moved away from Haysboro a few years ago and a lot the the neighbourhood was happy with that. Her kids still live there with the dad so I'm sure she still makes the odd appearance there.
A lot of negative common themes that we don't need at city council.

Haha, my wife had same reaction seeing her campaign mailer as well. Incredible how meeting someone only once can leave such a bad impression.

Our MLA is Sonya Savage, so it'd be pretty cool to be represented by two people whose names could be pro wrestlers.

They could be a tag team. The "Common Sense Crushers" or the "Transparency Connection" or whatever.

Gaz is the Craig Chandler slate candidate. I would advise not voting for any of his idiots. See this Reddit thread:

I'll add -- I'm not in Ward 1 but have had a few interactions with Sonya Sharp (the candidate, not the wrestler). She's pro-business just by virtue of her background, and seems very able. I can't speak to her platform though.

I just remembered Mike Jamieson (or someone representing him) did come to my door a couple months back. And whoever that man was, did not know who the current councillor for Douglasdale was. Embarrassing. He said it was Shane Keating twice. Except... it's not. It's Peter Demong.

Ward 1 here, I honestly can't say if I have seen any signs whatsoever. One guy for mayor (don't recall his name but not one of the big 3). I've seen zero Councilor signs.

Doesn't surprise me at all that Trenholm is one of them, his website looks like an audition for the UCP. I'm a tad worried about how many of his signs I see on lawns in the neighborhood

Pootmans came by tonight. Nice enough guy. I’m intrigued.
Anyone have thoughts on his previous terms? I lived in a different ward at the time (and different city for that matter).

I think Pootmans was fairly solid. I'll certainly vote for him over Kad (the local Manning Centre or whatever they're called now guy). I haven't looked to much into the other candidate, Lana Bentley, yet.

He was pretty vanilla in his first term. The only thing stands out to me is that he advocated for "speed bumps in all the things" type of approach. That kind of drove us nuts here, but whatever.
We could do better, and we could do worse...
He came by the other week in my neighbourhood, wife and I got to meet and chat with him for a bit. He definitely gives off "institutional / intellectual" vibes, but that's not necessarily a negative. It just makes me wonder about real-world applicability of helping run a metropolis.
Honestly, he was a good guy, didn't get weird vibes from him, and when he didn't know anything about the subject that we brought up to him (i.e. Federal gov't instituting municipal firearm bans) he said he'd have to read up on it and get input from the police experts, etc. To me that was a good answer. I don't expect anyone to be as up-to-date or as invested in a topic as me, but at least go out and get the info, gather the data, and get educated on it.
