Outside of getting to enjoy his hobbies of golfing, boating and fishing, Bennett is once again excited about his future on the ice. “A lot of people talked to me about how a change of scenery can really revitalize a career and change the way things go,” Bennett said. “I knew I still had a lot more to give and more to show as a player. I thought I could do a lot more than what I was doing in Calgary. Sometimes that’s all it takes, a little bit of a change, a GM and a coach that believe in you and that’s definitely what I got in Florida.”
Quote:
Bennett benefitted Florida in all areas. Averaging slightly more than 18 minutes per game, up from his 13:28 while in Calgary, Bennett’s duties also included time on Florida’s first power-play unit and on the penalty kill. “The opportunity alone was a ton,” Bennett said.

It hurts to see Bennett turn into a good playing knowing all he needed was to get away from how this organization operates

Bennett was given numerous opportunities in Calgary to take the bull by the horn and he didn’t take advantage.

In pro sports you only get so many chances and then the team moves on to the next player.

It’s good that he’s taken advantage in Florida. But the bottom line is he has to be accountable as well as the organization in the failure to find a niche in Calgary’s lineup.

I don’t think anyone can honestly say he had zero oppurtunity here. He just crapped the bed everytime it was presented outside of the one playoff run.

This is the cost of hiring three dud coaches in a row. No team success, and squandered potential/missed opportunities with players.

Yes but Milan Lucic and Jankowski are not close to Huberdeau and he rarely got 1st PP time

Very small sample size and he now makes over 4M on a long term deal. Time will tell.

Neal was the NHLs goal scoring leader after 20 games in Edmonton

If you need a Huberdeau to be a good player you are not that good of a player

he's been a good player his whole career.

He only "needed" Coach Q playing him center, and getting 18 minutes a night in a top 6 role. Things that NEVER happened in Calgary.

His pairing with Huberdeau has however been mutually beneficial.

He spent time on different lines and didn’t contribute much outside of dumb penalties.

Which is why he’d gravitate back to Lucic/Jankiwski

They gave him a few games then punished him too quickly

It remains to be seen this year, but if he continues in Florida like last year I do not see any valid argument except the Flames ####ed up Bennett

He has not been a good player his whole career. Just a reminder, some have us have watched his entire career.

I'm glad the Flames aren't the ones paying him that contract. I have a feeling it's not going to age well.

Yes after a good playoff, next season he was given the choice of 4th line center or bottom 6 wing. WTF is that. The Calgary Flames is not that deep.

This is funny

It’s the exact same argument that’s been going on the last few years, and after things came to a head, the player moved, and the evidence points in one direction, people who should bd able to see it still refuse to accept that it supports the other case

Imagine if they didn’t draft him how much more room would be left in the internet.

The Flames got a return of a couple assets for Bennett which is more than expected by many posters. I wish Sam all the best and hope he has a great career. If that’s the case, it’s just too bad he didn’t do it with the C on his chest.
