And Boskovic got pulled after 30. You wouldn't know this was 1 v 2 in the standings.

That was a classic 30 minutes of Boskovic. Just completely lost back there. So glad Cavalry didn't re-sign him.

I have no idea what constitutes a penalty in this league any more.
Tough fought game against a good side. Now to enjoy 8 days off.

I'm curious to see what happened in that skirmish where the Pacific player got sent off.
Good win though, glad to see this team starting to really click!

That had to be a penalty on Di Chiara? It looked blatant.

Looked like he grabbed someone around the throat by the motion made by the Pacific coaches.

I thought this team would miss Malonga, but Mason is just a flat out better player in that role.

There was, and likely still is, a soccer snobbery in Edmonton.
Itals, Victoria, Scottish are all well represented clubs on the Senior side. They also all like to think that they run the show for soccer in Edmonton and Alberta. And they battle over who gets to be part of and control the ASA up there regularly.
I am sure over the years and iterations of Edmonton soccer teams, each of those clubs from the city has tried to get inroads into taking control and getting their players on it, and it hasn't worked out or they've been rebuffed. Now, none of the clubs have any interest and likely are actively boycotting the support out of snobbery of past feeling slighted.
Besides the venue, the newness of the club here goes a fair way in some of the attraction, whereas Edmoton theyve had a few ongoing Iterations, something Calgary hasn't had since the Mustangs in the mid 2000s..therefore there's some fatigue with supporting a team in Edmonton, this latest one playing at a slightly higher level than the last, but in same stadium and no real link locally. Cavalry also have a strong link to a local club, which helps in getting kids from the club out, and generally feeling as part of the community, that Edmonton soccer community doesn't have and at this point, refuses to have.

Mason has been making this incisive runs for a few games now and now that there’s better service around him he’s actually getting the ball played to him. Fun to watch, solid win last night

Good win last night. Away to Pacific at the top of the table, Cavalry with a game in hand still. I would even call that win “very important”.

Something I don't understand at all is why sportsnet and tsn barely cover this league. I mean I don't expect headline coverage but at least show it at the end of the highlights show. I honestly don't know if TSN has ever even shown a score and posted the wire story on their website.
No team in my city but I still enjoy following it, it's a true grassroots Canadian professional league with stadiums growing up in random places like Victoria, Halifax and even Saskatoon, the lack of big sports network coverage has been kind of sad and curious, sometimes you wonder if they don't want it to succeed and why that would be.

The only coverage I’ve ever seen on even their Facebook/Instagram feeds was when the Cavs knocked off the Whitecaps.

Agreed, and it's almost like they're trying to keep it from succeeding for some reason. I look at the amount of coverage they give the WNBA for example on TSN (which I am supportive of) but it really makes you scratch your head, are there really more viewers in Canada more interested in that and more growth potential? Even though I think it's mostly older people who still have traditional cable, can't help but feel it would do much to attract casual fans if they has the odd mention on more mainstream outlets. Very odd.

It is all about sponsorship. If TV can't sell ads it doesn't cover their production costs. Advertisers don't make much money if it's 10k people or less, nation wide, watching a 7pm MTN start between Cavalry and Pacific.
As for network content, Sent shows 5 second clips of MLS highlights and only for Canadian teams. Even TSN who has MLS rights, shows 30 second clips in an hour long SportsCenter.
WNBA is propped up financially by the NBA severely, so that's not a good example. Especially as Bell owns part of MLSE which owns the Raptors, nevermind the social goodwill factor.
CPL is probably on par with CHL. Sportsnet shows a game a week and that's probably not a money maker, but there's enough advertiser's that want to be part of hockey sponsorship but not paying the NHL ad rates.
CBC picking up a few games as they did two years ago would be a good idea, but if they don't do it again, further proof that it's totally uneconomic to do so on a national level.
If Canada gets closer to actually qualifying for Qatar, the CMNT and probably the CPl will get a profile bump by the networks. As they likely will when sponsors want to jump on the 2026 WC train in 2 to 3 years.

There's just not enough interest in the league yet for the big networks to care. TSN doesn't pay a penny for MLS rights.
Oddly enough OneSoccer has media deals for CPL in the US, Central America, India, the Phillipines, and Africa. I think it's more a matter of networks in those countries being willing to pay for the rights, but Bell and Rogers not willing to do the same.

In my opinion, covering things like the CPL that can't find a home in for profit media should be the entire point of the CBC.

I feel OneSoccer is holding the CPL back…how many subscriptions could they possibly be bringing in? I would guess less than 500 total.
Was limiting the CPL to 1 game a week CBC or the CPL’s idea. If they want to grow the game, they might need to consider giving away the broadcasts, there must be a channel that would give them the airtime. Heck, even some smaller leagues including the Women’s Hockey was being broadcasted on Twitch.Tv…or mid 2000s WHL was in Shaw Public Access.
If a kid discovers the CPL on Twitch and gets his/her parents to take the family to a couple games a year, it will be more beneficial for the league than a $10 a month subscription.
