I like using the acronym so it makes me sound smarter than I am.
Very effective. Did they teach you that in your negotiating class also?

Atlanta was a top 10 TV market. I don't see either LV or SEA on that list. Maybe they actually consider more than one variable?

At this point, I think the owners will be pretty keen on the highest possible relocation fee(s) (Florida).

Don't know if that was part of it.

Actually I'd say in negotiation better off making yourself look as dumb and broke as possible. Which I also don't find difficult.

Its still primarily a gate-driven League.

Look no farther than last season and see how much revenue was lost due to having no fans in the stands but still getting TV revenue.

They absolutely do care about asses in seats.

Owners do too. Because asses in seats buy Beer and Hot Dogs.

Ha! We use BATNA all the time. It actually is quite useful, outside of sounding smart.

Both the Coyotes and the arena would have their own BATNAs. Apparently the arena thinks it would be better off opening up 41 dates in the calendar. The Yotes would have to look at all the possibilities, from building their own rink (unlikely), to moving to another Phoenix area location to relocating altogether.

Their other BATNA is selling which is what I'm most curious about. I don't think relo is likely without a sale.

I can see the league trying Atlanta again.

I have had my hopes crushed before though on many occasions though so I'll remain doubtful.
Now that Gary has the divisions perfectly balanced, I think the last thing the NHL would want to do is move a team out East. If the Coyotes move anywhere, it will probably be Houston or Portland. The only way Quebec gets a team in the near future is if an Eastern team like the Panthers relocate.

Houston makes a ton of sense for them to move to

That's the first step in going to a Canadian city. Might the path to bring back the Nordique!

They are not though, I still argue Detroit is better off back in the West.

Do we know what the lease deal is/was.... maybe Glendale wasn't making anything (or much) on those 41 games (plus pre and post season games)... with the pressure these teams place on city's to help fund or support their building operations, it would not surprise me to learn that the city is losing money on every game and if that is the case, a few concert dates or conventions could make them more.

Teams in the Eastern zone would much rather have the majority of their games start at 7pm or so. If you move an EST team to the Central division, more games will have a later start time for their fan base. Not something the team's owners would want. This is why Columbus and Detroit finally moved over to the Eastern Conference.

Glendale has 324 days to fill WITH the Coyotes. Their logic makes no sense at all.

They had 9 concerts a year pre-pandemic.

Suns arena is newly renovated and has always been the preferred concert location

Glendale is pretty much being a spiteful ex GF right now.

Doesn't KC actually make more sense than Houston?
- newish arena with ice making ability and no other major tenant
- previous desire to join NHL
- works for Central division
- existing rivalry in STL

Nowhere near the corporate money or metro population base.

I think all of the above works for Houston as well. The arena is about 3 years older though. And a built in rivalry with the Stars.

They would need to change their name to something aeronautic or space related though. Space Coyotes?

Edit - The Texans didn't conform so Coyotes might be alright

I think Houston is a no brainer honestly.

That's a huge market with a very diverse population.

Kansas City is the only place in the US I've visited where someone recognized and commented on my Flames hat. Based on this extremely small sample size I believe KC will be great for hockey!
