Other than lighting and signage, what else?
EDIT: Also, some of the landscaping/streetscaping around the building looks different, but that's hard to tell if it's changed or just more-detailed.

Still a hot mess. That ####ing parkade, I hate it so much! I honestly believe it is the main driving force behind some of the terrible design choices. I would have loved a community rink in that spot, but if we couldn’t afford that, the extra space could have been used to fix the following:
1. Run the upper level windows from the NW corner all the way down the entire west side (Olympic Ave) and around the southwest corner above the main entrance. From what I can tell there is some mechanical stuff that is being hidden by that piece of trash white screen. Without the parkade maybe all the mechanical could be relocated allowing the window wall to be extended (move mechanical to the east side).
2. Increase the Size of the NW plaza and entrance to be more prominent. This is the main door from the Green Line, it should be a focal point. Run retail and windows along 12th Ave. I can live with a blank wall for the East facade. The south facade can be half a blank wall and maybe half windows/retail.
3. All of the moves above would eliminate a ton of the cheap aluminum screening and provide more windows, retail, and a better public realm. Right now all the screens and blank walls make for a sterile, boring, and uninviting building.
From the drawings the arena is not centred to the overall lot. Due to the parkade, everything is squished over. I don’t see why, with the elimination of the parkade, the arena couldn’t be more centred leaving more room on all 4 sides. If anything, they can push the seating bowl a bit more to the east and make that a blank wall on the outside.
There are way to many materials currently on this dogs breakfast. I actually like the west side of the arena minus the white screen. The upper level windows and the ground level retail looks good. Simple but timeless design. Everything beyond that is trash. Hoping the interior makes up for it because the BMO Centre will be the showstopper on Stampede grounds. People think Rogers Centre will age poorly. This thing will look like crap on day one if they don’t use the highest quality materials possible.
Due to the Flames stubbornness to have a parkade included into the arena design, we have lost a potential community rink and sacrificed a lot of architectural design aspects.

Any insight why, aside from cost, the south/east sides look so plain and boring? One of my favourite shots of the Saddledome is from Scotsman's hill with the towers of downtown in the background, especially in the evening light. Also, many of the networks conduct gameday reports from the hill with the arena in the background. I acknowledge the location is a few blocks north of the Saddledome but I still think the arena will stand out...or should stand out.
As it looks in these drawings, the view from the hill will basically be the metallic square that is the proposed parkade. As a tax payer and season ticket holder I would find that very disappointing.
I really like the glass on the west side of the arena, though. I was hoping for much more glass than the cave that is the Saddledome has and that side looks fantastic. Ground-level entrances are an underrated piece too as I really enjoy those from other arenas and stadiums I've been to, and aesthetically they are much better. Can't wait to to see some interior presentations.

That view just isn't what it used to be anymore. With the towers that have been built in Victoria Park and along Macleod Trail, they now dominate that angle instead of the downtown towers.
This shot is from July: https://goo.gl/maps/9zSr9FpG4wZe2Rx67. So many of the biggest towers are either fully or partially obscured.
With the new arena being 2 blocks north of the Saddledome, the view from Scotman's Hill towards the new arena will just be dominated by the Arriva and Guardian towers and won't be much of a view at all. No matter how pretty they make that side of the building, that's not likely to be the angle of the skyline we see as much anymore.
Pretty much every arena in the NHL has an ugly side or three with parkades and loading docks. Those just aren't the angles we see on tv. The SE corner of the building will be the lowest-traffic corner of the new building, being furthest away from the C-Train stations and bigger parking areas. So, it makes sense for that to be where the loading dock entrance is.
Be thankful we aren't Boston, where this is the view of the arena from one of the busiest roads into the city: https://goo.gl/maps/WxGyEo72t7vpGJj1A

Not to mention, but even the current view of the dome from Scottman's shows the dome's parkade on the building NE corner.
The Saddleshot from the hill is photogenetic simply because of the shape of the facility. It really speaks Stampede/Western.

It’s too bad the Saddledome can’t be kept in some form. Such a cool building.
I like the post with the Giant Goalie mask on the side of the new building. I hope they can incorporate things like that, as well as the neon Cowboy from the Corral that was taken down to be refurbished. In fact, I hope this new rink gets named the “Scotiabank Corral” or something as a tribute.

Yeah that is a really weird space there.
…I don’t think a Euro-style Truck ad is out of the question…

Might it not be a security feature? Keeps fans like zuluking away from the opposing players for heckling purposes.

That's the Flames' bench, so it could be to keep away some of the team's own fans.
The space is about 7' x 10', so they're not jamming a full-size truck in there.

Well then, it has to be a small vehicle. Changli confirmed as new vehicle sponsor!

Pretty sure that's going to be a special roped off area for Bev to sit. Her displeasure with the team will be more evident to the players when she can look down across the whole bench at them.
