I just can't see things lining up well if we go into the season with a soon to be UFA Gaudreau and soon to be (and possibility disgruntled) Tkachuk.
One reason for hope in my eyes is that season ticket holders have not been invited to any information sessions as of yet. This has me holding onto hope that they’re waiting to make a splash before sending out details on those sessions because if they don’t do something noteworthy prior to those? The STHs are not going to be pleased as the narrative for the season they’re trying to sell us is rather rubbish at this stage.

Agreed. Are people seriously considering paying for season tickets to watch this roster? Ugh, no thanks.

According to Hailey Salvian's latest article on the Athletic, a source said that Dube and Valimaki could be getting signed this week.
She also says it sounds like there haven't been any serious discussions between Flames and Zadorov since he filed for arbitration but don't know if she is basing that on general chatter of some inside information. Keep in mind she said there were no serious talks between Gaudreau and the Flames on an extension and the next day Friedman said they have begun extension talks.
The same source said that Zadorov is expected to be signed before his arb case.

I didn't love the numbers she speculated for Dube and Vali. Both should be in the ~1 mil range. Vali in particular needs to prove a lot more.

Seems pretty unlikely for the Flames to trade for an RFA with arb rights and then not have serious contract discussions. Granted, the 3rd we traded for him was "found" money in a way

Currently $11.4M in cap space
Guessing $3.75 (NZ) + $1 (JV) + $1.5 (DD) + $0.75 = $7M, leaving $4.4M
And that would be 22 players, including Froese. You could drop him, and add a $5M guy, and run with 22 skaters.
I doubt Treliving just sits on that much cap space.
|
I think you are bang on. It probably is burning a hole in his pocket. Between our cap space, Eichel, Lamorello not announcing contracts, Ducks cap space, Rangers huge cap space, and Tarasenko, i think teams are in some kind of stand-off. Strange year.

Just putting this here because Stamkos sold his house in Tampa for $16 million cash starting some speculation he was on the move.

Wasn't Joe Smith the guy who was adamant that Coleman wasn't coming to Calgary?
Quite the insider there.

At the moment, according to capfriendly, TBL are approximately $7 mil over the cap.
Whose turn is it to be on the LTIR this year? Hedman? McDonagh?

Isn't it obvious from his great playoff production that Kucherov still isn't 100%? He will obviously be out for the full regular season to fully heal up for the next Stanley Cup run, until the league decides to do something about this LTIR silliness.

Brent Seabrook will remain on LTIR. It seems pretty clear that Stamkos sold his house for the money, no? Who wouldn't sell their own house if the offer was more than twice the valuation?

I have 4 great tickets I have no intention of losing. As long as long term I want tickets, really no viable alternative.
I've sat through way worse Flames teams. And they might be fine also.

They should make this the marketing slogan for the year.

I just don't see a Sutter team as being un-enjoyable to follow and watch whether they are a contender or not.

I am actually impressed with how some of you have talked yourself into the upcoming Flames apocalypse. It is actually getting worse by the day in here. Some of you started the off season with reasonable disappointment and have let it blossom into full fledged anger, pitchforks and torches. Most of it is ridiculously repetitive and wasting internets.
I have no rose coloured glasses but I hated Ward as a head coach and believe his deployment and lack of adjustments were a huge factor in the crap show we saw and there wasn’t enough runway for Sutter to fix it. Add injuries into the mix and playing the ridiculous Covid schedule and I am not willing to join the riot yet. I think there will be a move or two yet and want to see what Sutter can do with his group before I flush the toilet on them.

Maybe, just maybe, Gaudreau will re-up, Monahan will be the healthiest in years, and Chucky will grow up and sign long term…. And Sutter will perform magic!

I think Sutter is a great coach, and I do believe that he will squeeze all the juice out of this lemon. It is just unfortunate that he effectively arrives 2 or 3 years too late. It would have been great if he had a top D pair and some of the main stars weren't on their way out/declining. They may close the Eichel deal so that will definitely make things more interesting. I am still assuming we will make the playoffs, and Sutter can deliver a surprise. The D is just too thin for my liking, especially in terms of scoring...
