First off at Bootleg Gap last two mornings. Other than the smoke it was awesome. Course is finally in excellent shape (had major greens issues last summer). Played in 3 hours Sunday and 2.5 hours as a twosome yesterday. Spoils you compared to how slow some rounds can be.

I just got the 0811 X+ prototype and so far so good (only 2 rounds). I put my old shaft into it and my distance definitely increased. I am still playing around with loft and the weights (no driving range close) to really fine tune it. Can really feel the difference of the head compared to my old gen 1. The old one felt soft but still went farther than it felt. I would say they’ve made some major improvements for sure on their driver from gen 1

plyws blkue devil yesterday. pulled into the clubhouse lot and there were about 5 cars in the lot. pro-shop told me lots of folks cancelled. they told me i could go on my own, or play with a twosome that were getting ready. i was going to play witht eh twosome; however, one of the two guys said, i could go if i wanted and i said, it's ok i'll wait a few minutes. he then tells me they wont be ready for another 10m or so as they had to go to washroom etc. I took that as a message of we don't want you to golf with us.

played the front 9 in 70 minutes. Cauthgt up to a foursoem on 13 and they would not let me play thru - one of the group told me something about i'd have to wait anyway. did not understand him, and spent the last 6 holes stewing about it. got yhe the parking lot and one guy in the group was parked beside me, so i asked him what was up and apparently slade (ceo of golf calgary) does not want the grounds crew letting players thru in the morning.

would have been interesting to see how quick i could have been had i been able to play thru. Was great being able to hit and go for 11 holes.

had one blow up hole and 4 or so putts of less than 5 feet that i could not convert that prevented me from logging a score in double digits.

has been somewhat nice for me this year, as my wife is really enjoying golfing more than she has ever, so we are getting out together once per week. WE are thinking of perhaps getting a membership at serentity next eyar; however, i need to do the breakeven math and talk about if we are committed to golfing that much or if we just stick with the discount card

Anyone played Mountainside in Fairmount Hot Springs? My kids are in camp nearby, so I was going to sneak in a round at a course in the area. It was rated pretty well on google and it's actually pretty reasonably priced, but if it sucks I'll go somewhere else.

It's a nice course especially for the price. I have played it numerous times and always enjoy it. Remember that everything runs down the side of the mountain, even if it looks like it doesn't.

It's hard to say any of the courses out there "suck", I guess I'd say Radium Resort is probably the "worst" course out there and even that is decent. I think Mountainside is better than Riverside even though Riverside is more expensive.

Earlier this year, I fitted for a full set of PXG Gen4s - driver right down to putter.

I haven't noticed any significant extra length on the driver, but I am hitting it straighter, with less dispersion. I am very happy with it.

But I LOVE the fairway woods. I gave up on hybrids and went back to a full set of woods - got a 3, 5 and 7 - and the PXGs are awesome. I have never hit woods straighter, longer, or more consistently.

The irons are also the nicest I have ever hit (only thing close was the Mizuno blades I used to hit).

Obviously, they are expensive. But you get what you pay for and IMO, they are phenomenal. Very happy with them.

It's the best of the three Fairmont courses. Love the old school out and back design. The south end of the course has some of the best views around.

In the valley it would be #4 on my list behind Greywolf, Copper Point, Radium Springs.

Not a fan of Eagle Bend. Way over priced for the course.

played quite a few courses this year but am always looking for some under the radar "gems". I have heard from a few people that Strathmore is quite good, anybody else have any "gems" that might not typically be on the radar?

Speargrass.

The back 9 at Nanton is pretty good. Only drawback is you have to play the front to get there.

River's Edge is Okotoks is rapidly becoming a value play. New super has that place in tip top shape and the owner has been putting money into the course.

This.

Would also add Turner Valley and Picture Butte.

If anyone is looking for a once in a lifetime golf trip, come to Newfoundland and golf Humber Valley Resort: https://www.humbervalley.com/

Yes, come play 27 at Butte. The nice part is that all 27 are really quite different. First nine is fairly standard to what you would expect. Back 9 has a few changes plus water and coulees while the final 9 they tried to make it more of a links style. The nice part is that there is almost at least a 9 you can get onto here.

How far is too far for a gem? Lee Creek Valley (Cardston) and Pine Hills (Rocky Mtn House) are a bit of a trek, but very fun courses.

I played there (Lee Creek) mid July and it was in solid condition. Definite gem. We were there on a Tuesday and it was $38 with a cart, that is crazy. Course was almost empty.
A couple other gems, as mentioned Speargrass for sure. Vulcans back 9 is fantastic, Land-o-lakes (east of Lethbridge) was nice for the price.

Yeah good call on Land-O-Lakes, been a while since I was there but remembered it being a nice little track.

It's a really cool design how they weave it through the valley. Challenging course, lots of cool holes, and great value price. Wish it was a 90 minute drive instead of 2.5 hours, but worth a play every couple years (or if you're heading to Montana a nice break before getting to the border).

Couldn't agree more about Nanton, really dislike the front 9 but the back is solid.
