Parayko, Kyrou, Thomas, 1st for Tkachuk

Parayko, Kyrou, Neighbors, 1st for Tkachuk

Tarasenko, Kyrou, Thomas, 1st for Tkachuk

Tarasenko, Kyrou, Neighbors, 1st for Tkachuk

Personally I would go with Tarasenko, Kyrou, Neighbors, 1st for Tkachuk. Two RWs with scoring ability, a pretty highly regarded center ice prospect, and a 1st is a great return and makes the team stronger now and in the future.

St Louis probably hangs up the phone on any of these deals.

They probably wont go beyond Tarasenko (assuming he will waive) and Kyrou. Doubt they even entertain adding anything more than a third round pick to the mix.

Tkachuk is not going to return the package people are hoping for.
He is not a $9M+ player a year if you are giving up assets to get him.

The Flames need more elite talent, not less.

Trading one of our top players for a package of less talented players is the opposite of what this team needs.

although I am not advocating to trade MT, but why not see if the Leafs would be interested? he could re-unite with Marner and they are always looking for grit.

something around Nylander+?

I agree, but eventually you have to gauge the long term likelihood of Tkachuk sticking around (and the fact you have to pay him $9M to even keep him another year). He's worth more now than as a rental.

A few 9f those offers were drummed up by STL media ppl. Actually most of those were some form of discussion tabled by people around the Blues full time. So saying matter of factly that the Blues would hang up the phone first is not as likely as you would believe.

All that stemmed from the SOB rumor the Blues want MT but the Flames asking price from other reports is astronomical.

It'd take a package like those to get the Flames to budge and it'd be more probable the Flames hang up the phone on those offers unless it was Tarasenko with full retention.

I don’t think Tkachuk is worth more coming off by far his worst season in the NHL than he would be if he plays a full season with Gaudreau and Lindholm. Personally I think Tkachuk should only be traded for Eichel this offseason otherwise I prefer he stay and rebuild his value here. If he has requested a trade that is a different story

He's worth more as a really good $7M player than than a $9M one year rental in a year IMO. And he doesn't really have to request a trade, he just has to wait it out, making that $9M. Then he walks for free.

Or, he signs a longer term deal for less than $9M.

Or - if he is to be traded - instead of trading him for a bunch of lesser players, how about focusing on a one for one, where we get a good player back?

Continually trading quality for quantity is not how you build a winner

All true. But if he's made his feelings known, other teams know about this and can drive the hard bargain. Especially if they fear being put in exactly the same position. It's a disadvantage in the deals.

So what player of Tkachuk’s quality do you think is available in a trade and would make a good match?

Tkachuk would not be a Flames if any of these deals were offered

The chances of trading Tkachuk for a player better than him is likely slim, that's just how it goes when you are trading a player with 2 years to go before UFA.

It will have to be for a collection of lesser pieces. Hopefully ones that increase in value. Like the Hamilton trade to Carolina. We got lesser talent, but ended up with more talent.

I think the highest return will be with St. Louis, since they would be the only teams that likely feels comfortable that he'll sign with them long term.

Tarasenko likely has to be part of the return since the Blues would need the cap space.

The alternative is likely watching his value decrease as he gets closer to UFA.

Yeah, that’s more than the Sabres are asking for Eichel. A bigger return than almost any player has gotten in years. More than Stone, Carter, or Kessel (who I would suggest are reasonable comparables).

Tkachuk
B prospect or 2nd

Parayko
Kyrou
1st

That would be a monster return.

If Tkachuk actually wants to end up in St. Louis (and who knows it that is in any way true) and he's just going to take a one year QO end of this year.

Why wouldn't St. Louis just wait until he's a UFA in 2 years and not lose top end prospects?

If he indeed wants out, we are over a barrel here as teams know we have to move him for something or risk losing him for nothing in 24ish months.

St. Louis isn’t some young team who can wait a couple years to add a franchise player. They are going for it now as a lot of their top players are entering their 30’s.

That and a lot of things can change in two years. Maybe the Flames go in a run and he decides to stay or maybe he can make more money somewhere else which seems to be the key motivation in that family.

Keith wasn’t really a guy who had success when the regular season paycheques stopped.

Points per game in the regular season were .89, and that dropped to .62 in the post season. Made the playoffs 13 times and lost in the first round 11 times.

Oddly his best playoffs was his first year in STL when he was a TDL pickup and they made the third round. When he was perhaps least settled in to the team

Dont think they’d want to pony up what we’d likely want from them. They are in no position to be giving up 1sts. An injury to B. Tkachuk or Chabot could very well put them back at the bottom. Not to mention the suspect goaltending they’ve got at the moment.
