Benning.

They have over 17 million in cap in Ekman-Larsson, Myers, Hamonic, and Poolman.

For the next 3 years.

OEL is terrible. He is like Hamonic when Treliving traded for him. Overrated and live off the hype 3 yrs ago.

That said I am not sure if Treliving is any better than Benning. We’ll be competing with Vancouver again for the lottery ticket.

I'll take that bet.

Pretty decent chance both teams make the playoffs, but it seems almost certain that at least one will (and the Flames are way deeper).

In order for the Flames and Nucks to be competing for a lottery ticket, two of these teams have to finish ahead of both of them:

Seattle
LA
SJ
Anaheim

Good luck with that.

Yeah pacific is terrible. It’s Treliving’s best advantage.

The point is we are not any better than the Canucks with Benning

We just need one of those teams to finish above us, if the Central takes both wildcards.

IMO the Kings look dangerous

Isnt the wildcard a thing of the past now? Won’t it be best 4 of each division going through?

I was about to post something similar, but then I took a look at the teams in the Central. They're not that great either for the most part. It's a big swing from a few years ago when the West was stacked with good teams, and the East sucked. Now the pendulum has really swung the other way.

The West wildcards will almost for sure be filled with teams worse than those that just miss the playoffs in the East.

Wasn't that only for the pandemic season, or did they permanently change this? If it was permanent, I guess I missed that.

Back to normal.

2 wildcard playoff spots per conference.

Frederick Gauthier is a player that’s still looking to find a landing spot. Had a couple good years in the faceoff circle as the 4th line center for Toronto before moving on to a PTO with the Yotes last year and having a hard time settling in there. Might be worth a PTO and would certainly add even more size and grit to the bottom 6.

We don’t need guy with zero offense on the team. Just sign Nordstrom if you want that

Much rather give Bozak a PTO. His possession stats took a nose dive last year, but he is still strong in faceoffs and a RHS. Could be a cheap Ryan replacement.

many in St Louis assume Bozak has a deal in place with the Blues, pending Tarasenko trade

Boy it'd be nice if the league started up with the trades.

Would love for Calgary to keep tinkering.

I’m guessing when the dust settles and it’s clear we aren’t getting Eichel that Tkachuk is moved. Keep reading about St. Louis but I don’t know if I love the pieces from there. Kyrou, Thomas, Neighbours, Tarasenko, Parayko are not pieces that move us ahead. Obviously there will be many teams interested, who would some of the other players be?

I guess you’ve got to look at teams that are looking for a bit of a shake up like Calgary.

Yes, that mixed with many of those teams being up against the cap. Guessing St. Louis, Nashville, Pittsburgh, Carolina would look at it.

Haha. I get irrationally nervous about a potential Tkachuk trade. Especially if STL is the partner. Parayko....big right shot Dman from western Canada. I could see both Treliving and Sutter really coveting him. And I don't mind Parayko, just not as the main piece for Tkachuk.

Maybe some are against it, but I really wouldn’t mind a Thomas, Tarasenko, and 2022/23 unprotected 1st (Calgary’s choice) for Tkachuk.

Tarasenko wants out, we’d be doing them a huge favor by taking on his contract. Tkachuk is a far better player, so I think we can get a bunch of good assets for him. They’ve no space to sign C/RW Thomas, we do.

EDIT: Parayko is also a good option, especially if we sent Andersson++ to Buffalo for Eichel

Funny I get irrationally nervous about them holding on to Tkachuk until he’s worth much less because of circumstance or he walks for free. Parayko? Fine, great, if things really are that bad let’s get moving already. Insert do something dot jpg here.
