The Oilers played 6 teams the entire season.
S-I-X.
I, II, III, IV, V, VI
Not even enough teams for 3 Roman numerals.
What do you not understand about this.
Going forward his salary is $9.5 million against all the teams, not just the Canadian ones.
This is great though. Please respond it is thoroughly entertaining. Keep enabling failure.

Nurse had a good season, even with the Ottawa factor.
Doesn't mean he's anywhere a 9.25MM defenseman. And if that season was an outlier because of those factors, it's going to look BAD.
And I'm here for it.

Oilers went 19-12-6 with Smith at .902 in 19/20.
Last year with Kosikinen and Skinner who were sub .900 they went 14-13.
The Oilers were 25th in ES save % in 19/20 and 20th in 20/21 so its not like they've been relying on superhuman goaltending to win games.

What an egregious contract. Holy smokes do I ever love this as a Flames fan.
Does Nurse's contract make the all-decade Appeal to Authority All-Star Team before he even plays a game? I think it does. Think you're smarter than an NHL GM? Think again! Off the top of my head so surely missed one or two, and with help from the amazing Cap Friendly. Have fun.
Skinner (8 x $9.00) - Richards (9 x $6.67) - Ryan (7 x $7.25)
Ladd (7 x $5.50) - Johansen (8 x $8.00) - Clarkson (7 x $5.25)
Lucic (7 x $6.00) - Turris (6 x $6.00) - Neal (5 x $5.75)
Leino (6 x $4.50) - Duchene (7 x $8.00) - Brouwer (4 x $4.50)
Bolland (5 x $5.50) - Kesler (6 x $6.88)
Vlasic (8 x $7.00) - Doughty (8 x $11.00)
Nurse (8 x $9.25) - Seabrook (8 x $6.88)
Karlsson (8 x $11.50) - Jones (8 x $9.50)
Ekman-Larsson (8 x $8.25)
Bryzgalov (9 x $5.67)
Bobrovsky (7 x $10.00)
Cap hit: $166.60

How does Kyle Okposo not make that squad?
Obviously an argument to be had for Alexei Yashin and Mike DiPietro. Maybe Christian Ehrhoff... it had a low cap hit relative to some of these but had 7 years left when he was bought out.

This is great! I think Brouwer and Bolland could maybe have replacements, since the term on those ones is less than 6 years. It's the term that really makes a bad deal a BAD deal.

So you really think you can out-offense .900 goaltending and the bag of logs you have for a defense core?
You think you can compete in spite of it?
Good luck with that sir.

I wonder if the save percent is bad because their $9 mil dman seems to give up a high rate of high danger scoring chances against? Don’t goalies have worse save percentages when facing these types of chances??
Their goalies are in for a long year who that d core

Over the last two seasons the Oilers have had the 11th best goaltending in all situations but were buoyed by having the 5th best shooting percentage, for a PDO of 1.015 (3rd place).
I could go all anti-Oiler here, but instead I'll admit they probably keep the shooting percentage in the black because they have two top of the heap forwards.
But if the step back on the blueline and another year on Smith's odometer (and probably coming off what seems to be a late career year) they could be in some difficulty for sure.
With that blueline, it's pretty likely things get worse defensively, and given how a lot has gone right offensively in the past two years this certainly has that whiff of a step back.

A sane person will hear what you're saying.
Oiler fans.. in one ear out the other.
You can only keep dressing d-men and a goalie tandem that are littered with question marks so many times before those questions marks come back to bite you.

It’s August; the time when Oilies preseason banners are declared and hoisted to the rafters.

Agree with this, don’t think they will finish in the top half of league standings…. And their window is literally this year before Nurses contract kicks in……. Good luck hahahaha. God what a disaster, a lot of shrewd moves Kenny, good job.

This could be a fun separate thread. Don’t forget about DiPietro at 15x4.5.
