Keeping that cap flex open for other moves to occur?

If you were say acquiring Eichel they have the room right now with the 10 percent cap overage youre allowed during the offseason to bring him in without any big salary moving.

It would but is there really a viable contract that makes any sense to buy out at this point?

Lucic is an anchor contract vs what he provides but buying him out would save the club just under 2M this year, less than .5M next year and then actually cost them just over .5M the following two years.

With the veteran loss of Gio, I especially don’t want Lucic bought out.

Depends - if the extra years are for someone over 35, it can reduce the AAV. But if it is for someone young or in their prime, it's going to raise it.
