The icing on the cake is definitely “I’ve studied moral philosophy for 35 years” followed by the outright refusal to share any philosophical position in any level of detail that would indicate even an introductory class understanding of moral philosophy, and the complete avoidance of engaging with Corsi, who is probably the most interesting, engaging, and fair poster you could choose to engage with on the topic (my compliment extends ONLY TO THIS TOPIC).

But the whole thing is just a treat. Transphobic remarks, cancel culture, thought police, the political left, the mob and it’s control over the publishing industry, all like a weird festering cloud of angry nonsense sitting on a bed of other people being totally reasonable.

It’s all great, I love it. I mean I hate some of it, but that’s why I love it.

I know this is a joke but this is totally legal so long as you provide reasonable notice.

I tell clients all the time, you can be terminated for any reason whatsoever so long as it’s not a protected ground under human rights (in Alberta and Ontario, it isn’t)

Other people have commented, what if the shoe was on the other foot and YOU were terminated for liking posts??? I would be mad, but most people are mad after getting terminated

If anything, people should take serious moral issue with the "one name" thing.
Transgender and sport is the new rap music in suburbia

I mean, come on, Kant and Aristotle and Bentham and others managed to get it to a bumper sticker (in Kant's case it's a bit of a hard to read bumper sticker but it still fits). I just think you're not trying very hard.

Certainly lots a valid points made here. Thanks, it is educational.

If you were to summarize the event, and tell it to your 13ish year old kids, how would you do it? What would you say to them about this as a teaching moment, other than delete social media and never enter it again?

Choices have consequences.

The rest of it was just hand waving and hysterics for the sake of it.

He didn't say he *understood* anything, just that he has been studying it.

A. Not just likes, but also retweets (and lots of both).
B. Not just “edgy”.
C. Doesn’t need to be justified - just needs to be against company policy, or in their eyes, not in their best interests.

Just follow some Michael Scott advice.

Don't ever, for any reason, do anything to anyone for any reason ever, no matter what, no matter where, or who, or who you are with, or where you are going, or where you've been... ever, for any reason whatsoever...

I've felt censored. No I'm not being a victim, this is just fact. I am also not a giant piece of s### either. I agree with the previous poster, it's a scary world when we're now going through the minutiae of what someone likes on their twitter account. I'm not defending this goalie coaches character or his beliefs, I have no idea what they are.

To me it seems we've taken the vilification to another level, and to me that doesn't feel great. As we navigate through this space it seems a louder voice and a pointed finger is more powerful than logic and sound reasoning. Even in this thread you've completely discounted the previous posters views and opinions for nothing really other than that they conflict with your own. I don't see anywhere where a pity party was asked for.

I consider my thoughts and stance on things in our world progressive. I'm supportive of many of the causes. I'm super concerned with the method. To me the method of many today matches the methods and actions of those they seek to target. She's a witch, burn her.

Not talking about this case since I'm not particularly informed about it, but company policy can't be everything. Are there not certain freedoms and liberties upon which company policy and your employer's best interests have no business intruding upon?

Well, unless you’re a member of a union with a CBA or had enough stroke to negotiate a fairly strong employment agreement yourself, anything you say publicly might cause your employer to fire you. It doesn’t mean they don’t have to compensate you but you are fired all the same.

Are people actually arguing a publicly facing company shouldn't remove an employee who posts degenerate stuff online and is easily identifiable? Horrible content aside, who wants to pay a dumbass who publicly posts edgelord nonsense? Kind of demonstrates a complete lack of common sense, no?

Getting an endorsement from PepsiFree is like getting an endorsement from Charles Mansion. Not something you should be advertising.

This issue really boils down to the rights of the employer to protect their image and brand, and expecting employees to follow certain standards and embrace values consistent with those of the organization. If the company discovers that an employee espouses or promotes values inconsistent with that behavioral standard, they have the right to terminate that employee. The Leafs have taken a stand on certain social issues, and one of their employees was discovered to be promoting views that are inconsistent with their expectations. They have all the right in the world to terminate that employee. The real problem here is they did not do proper due diligence during their hiring process and now have to explain away this embarrassing situation. This should have been caught in background and the individual never should have been hired in the first place.
