Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking 2021 - Round 6
Welcome to the annual Calgarypuck Prospect Poll!
As per usual ...
1. Rank the prospects as you like. Upside, chances, or trade value
2. I will try and do one a day which should get us to rookie camp range
3. Graduates and/or runoffs will be determined in each case
4. Please don't complain that the polls are going to deep. We go until all the prospects are ranked, so don't vote if you don't want to.
Link to previous years ... Link

Having these goalies 4 and 5 will be an interesting look back in the coming years.
I'm sticking with Stromgren until he's chosen, but I certainly understand the argument for others.

I went with Stromgren as well. It's good that there is so many possibilities for the top 10

It is a CP tradition to vote the number one goalie prospect in the top 5. I feel that it is fool hearty since the Flames have only graduated one goalie in the last 10 years.

I went with Ruzicka. Had an impressive sophomore season, scoring 1 more goal than he did in his first year with 26 less games, went from .5ppg to .75ppg, and didn’t look out of place in his short stint in the NHL. I’ve got high hopes for him.

Kuznetsov. Big talented blueliner who made the jump to the pros at 19. We need more of those.

Mackey, Connor - At least he can play limited time in NHL. I hope he play solid 3rd pairing D this season.

Poirier - the offensive weapon this team sorely needs from the backend.

We have now entered the phase where I actually need to do my research to compare guys.....the joys of getting past the blue-chip prospects!

It's also a CP tradition to try as hard as the collective can to assign historical outcomes to probabilities of future success.
Have never understood that one myself.
I'm more a every player, every season, and every decision maker is unique.

Mackey for me. For the higher-end prospects (top 3 or so), I tend to place more weight on pure upside, largely because I think they are all likely to at least make the NHL in some capacity. As we move down the prospects list, I tend to place more weight on the likelihood of them making the NHL roster in the near term rather than what their absolute upside might be.
Mackey has a great chance at finding a spot in the bottom pair next season. And with him not looking entirely out of place in his mini audition last year (albeit with some uneven performances), he gets the nod here.

It's over?
Don't get me wrong. People can hang on to past misery as long as they want to, not for me to decide.
I just don't think in the same fashion.

This is good point, but trajectory is still significant. I think in this instance it is meaningful. This particular management has struggled to identify/develop amateur goaltending talent.
Of course this doesnt mean that these goalies are 100% destined to fail, it is just something worth accounting for when assessing how likely these players are to make the NHL.
History is not a predictive tool, nor is it deterministic, rather it is a means to understand our current context.

But the current GM and some of the management personnel identified and developed Rittich.
And they've changed the management structure in the last year adding another layer.
And they've acquired a goaltender that was largely developed by another organization.

Mackey due to upside and likelihood of making it to be full time NHLer
also like that he is willing to drop gloves if needed
