Some strategically placed lighting could really help it.
The giant screen would be a dream. Just too big though.
I think making that part red instead of silver would liven the building quite a bit. Red is obviously the Calgary colour after all.
I like the vertical red section but it's just a small portion of the building.

So looking at the plans, the parkade was clearly intended to the be the Flames practice rink/community rink, but that was cut due to costs. There seems to be a tremendous lack of front office/executive spaces within the drawings. With that being the case, I assume that building a practice rink that's also a head office for the Flames (and perhaps CSE as a whole) is still in the plans? I wonder if the location can still be somewhere very central, such as attached to Repsol Centre? Would be nice to have a community rink in the downtown area.

Looks like the Flames offices are on the second level, west side.

How much office space do they need? It looks like there's about 40 offices on the Mezzanine level over the Team Store and Bourbon Bar. Plus, a large open area that could hold a bunch of cubicles if they needed.

Practice arena probably won't be a priority for the Flames for at least another decade and only if the number of events at the Event Centre are cutting into available ice time for practices. At that point I would expect them to contribute some money to a community rink ore recreational facility being built somewhere in the city with the understanding it will be a training and practice facility shared with the public.

There's already a Flames Community Arenas facility. It wouldn't be prohibitive to add off-ice fitness facilities to the complex.
As far as I know, it's only been used once... for a summer development camp in the mid-2000s.
There's always WINSport as well...

Didn't they typically use the Corral several times a year?

Yeah, but the Saddledome had numerous events skip it due to the roof load issue. The new event centre should get more events and be busier in theory.

Likely only 2-6 additional events a year at the most

Ah, I didn't even notice that area since it wasn't labeled anything. I just assumed that was the second floor of the public strip along Stampede Trail.

I know you can't futureproof these completely, but at this pace the next arena will be built in 2065, so better to overbuild. If you told the designers of the Dome in 1981 that they should build something that would still be being used in 2023 where individual players are making $10MM a year, they'd probably have built it different, along with parking spots for flying cars.
Point being, the current Flames offices are woefully inept, never mind the overseeing of Stamps, Hitmen and RoughNecks.

The Flames handle bookings for the new building and will probably just use Winsport on days where they book concerts for the new building, just like they do right now usually.

The largest section is the second level so you’re limited because you can’t really charge premium prices for inferior seats.
I mean you can and they have, and the people who sit across the row or up a couple seats with a price hike know this and it doesn’t create the best long term relationship with customers.
|
What? Some of the most expensive seats are in the second bowl in the first 4 rows.

Let me repeat this for those in the back who didn’t understand.

4 rows is making the best of an financially limited seating arrangement, in addition to other limitations of the Dome.

I really don't see how the size or the positioning of the second level has any net impact on ticket pricing.
The best and more desired seats will cost the most, and then seats will get progressively cheaper as they move further away from the ice. Whether that is in the 1st tier, or the 2nd or the 3rd, really doesn't matter.

Maybe you should give Brian Burke a call and see if he can break it down for you.

He always provides lots of great details.
"It's Canada. We add a million dollars to every contract. Because taxes."
"We won't threaten to leave, we'll just leave."
Really gets into the nuance of these things.
