What am I missing here? He has played 47 NHL games.
His performance and numbers have been good, but $5.65M per?
Contracts have been crazy this summer.

They really are all over the place. You could have told me this was for somewhere in the low 4's and I'd have thought "seems fair". But on the other hand, I think goalies are generally underpaid, so...

I have always felt this way as well.
So I am curious: using the salary cap of $81.5M (I know that over-states it slightly, but not much and it is easier math), and a 23 man roster, that means the average salary is $3.54M
So what is the average goalie salary?
With 2 per team, the average says that about $7M should be spent on goalies. And without actually knowing the numbers, that sounds like about what we see.
Does anyone have the data on goalies?

Never watched any Rangers games last year but his numbers are pretty good, looks like a reasonable gamble. If he keeps on the same course the next contract will be huge though.

Based on the incredible hype he had coming in and more than living up to expectations, this is very reasonable, even if it is the biggest second contract ever handed out to a goalie

Considering what Hart got and the fact Hart is far more established in the legue....this seems like an absurd amount of money for this guy.

Yeah if I was a Rangers fan I wouldn’t be too fond of Drury so far.

Taking a while to get to 5000

I think this spells the end of Georgiev in NY which lines up with the talk of him being in on any Eichel deal.

I dunno... goalies are weird.
This could bite the Rangers in the ass.

Shesterkin has a career GSAA of 16.6 in 47 games, which is absolutely absurd.
Hart has a career GSAA of -11.2 in 101 games, which is not good.
If you take away Hart's historically bad season, which is kinda fair honestly, his GSAA of 11.5 in 74 games still falls well short of Shesterkin's numbers.
Plus Shesterkin dominated overseas and had massive hype for years before coming to the NHL, so it's not like it's a risky bet on someone who came out of nowhere.

I think Eichel is going to be a Ranger, they needed to see what this would cost to be able to fit his contract. They now have the ability to move prospects/picks or more established players and still have cap for Eichel. They have a lot of flexibility now.

That will set them up for a painful next off season, Fox will command around 10m and would only have about 15 signed players and only 12m in cap space.

Anyone else seeing the Coil taking a run at Georgiev? Could see them sending their 1st and Kostinem and a prospect. Would help cost wise and be an upgrade,
If I were Rangers I would ask, 1st+Koskinen+McLeod or Holloway

The best outcome for all is for NYR to do Fox+Georgiev for Eichel.
