Maybe I'm overrating ROR and Theodore but I think I'd do this for Calgary. That being said a 6-way trade is absurd LOL

Couple generational talents coming up provided they can hang onto their picks. Might as well swing for the fences and if it goes tits up its a good time to tank. Hate to see this team stuck in the middle for another 10 yrs.

I mean sure when you pick 2 of the best years for one player and 2 of the worst for the other.

For the pieces going you are. BT would be facing a lynch mob if he did that.

The more this drags out, the more nervous Treliving is making me. There is a huge hole on D and the top 6 isn't really changed much at all. The team is different from last year but I don't think they're different enough. I really want to see some kind of change but I don't want the team to sacrifice much of the future in order to make that change. They won't rebuild so getting Eichel is the next best bet IMO. If they did get Eichel there is a chance he doesn't play much of this season, they would likely have to get rid of a top 6 player on the roster in a trade so overall they would be out a current top 6 player and not get one back on the roster for a while which would make them not that great ths year IMO. I hope to God they don't trade away a 2022 first rounder or if they do, it should be protected. I would rather give up 2 unprotected firsts instead of next year's pick unprotected.
If Eichel falls through, I have a feeling the team will enter a slow rebuild. I don't think it's that bad of an idea but I just think Eichel is this core's last chance. I don't see any other player being available that would help this team enough.
This all just feels like the team has no real direction. I hope they pull something together and help this team move in the right direction. Eichel and next year's first should really help.

Well, yes, but the question was about trade value. And it was 3 years, not 2. But the point is those best three for one and worst three for the other are all the last 3 seasons.
Hence, one player's trade value would be conceivably higher at this point in time.
Not sure what's so hard to understand about that.

This all sounds quite complicated, and each piece inter-connected.
Almost explains why it's taking a while, no?

Bennett is the biggest miss but I feel like all of our core players have fallen short of where I personally thought they would be.
|
It could be that we just don't have the right kind of quality around the players. If Bennett is playing better with better players (and better coaching) then maybe the Flames as a whole are not filling the blanks with the right kind of personnel. I remember GG for example always experimenting putting square pegs in round holes, kept going with things that were not working. Flames kept spinning tires on coaching hires that just didn't fit the team needs. The core has gotten older while many of those spots were filled with guys that came in and were shipped right back out. Wasted space, wasted time.

I just came across this article dated today.
According to Rangers reporter Rick Carpiniello the Rangers are open to moving a key piece out in the deal:
"Just tossing this out there as I head for some vacation time ... DO NOT be surprised if Mika Zibanejad is in the deal that ultimately brings Jack Eichel to #NYR"

Makes zero sense. Zib is signed for one year and then a UFA, exactly what Buffalo does not want. So, unless it's a 3 way or more deal, makes no sense.

What do special about Mikka where someone would be surprised about it? He’s not an untradeable player. If you’re acquiring a superstar, do people expect to just get picks back?

Taking a while to get to 5000

I think it was discussed in another thread (or this one?) that the Sabres could potentially acquire players that they would turn around and move again. So they may not want to keep MZ at all but have another team interested in him for picks etc.

Wasn't Friedman saying a few weeks back that he heard Tre was one of the most creative GM's this year? Hoping this lines up and we have something coming to help this team.

I've stopped believing anything that comes out about how hard Treliving works or how many plates he's got on the boiler. It's all amounted to all talk, no walk.
The biggest (and only) change he's made in 3 years was imposed on him by the expansion draft.

This team made him not a top 6 centre, that's on the team (and Bennett). Not fate, not the hockey gods. You hire three bad coaches in a row, and you get what you deserve. Bennett isn't the only one to falter thanks to those decisions unfortunately, as we are almost universally looked at as a team that underachieves every year for "reasons".
I wish Darryl would have taken over after the Peters fiasco. Things would have played out much, much differently.

Geoff Ward was such a huge misstep for the franchise. Wasted year at a critical time for evaluating key assets.

Do you guys think that Kuznetsov might regain his top first line center form? He definitely seems like a potential buy low option. It's rather risky though, because he gets paid quite a bit for 4 more years. I thought he was key to Washington winning the cup, but there definitely are question marks about the guy.

He hasn't produced a lot more than Monahan while being on a better team. If he was known to be a great two-way center than I would be interested but I feel like he is more of a complimentary type like Monahan.

Wouldn't that require MZ to waive his NMC to go to Buffalo and then waive it again to go to where they want to send him? Seems like a risk for Buffalo to take on the piece and then hope they get the right trade partner to give them pieces back. Not to mention, who says MZ even would waive to leave in the first place? I can't recall hearing he was looking to get out, and can't imagine he would want to leave a team he wants to be on, especially if they were getting Eichel.
