I doubt it goes to arbitration. I expect a 4 year deal for about $17- 18M.

Care to offer a breakdown on the weaknesses, opportunities and what should be the areas of focus?

No, but in general, he doesn’t lack fitness or strength. He may not be genetically disposed to great speed, but a good skating coach can get more out of him, just like with, say, Mark Stone or Point. Barb Underhill could get him up to average NHL speed I bet.

What do you think he will get if Calgary signs him for a longer period?
He was asking for 6 years and (IIRC) close to $6M AAV from Chicago.

How come Tkachuk and Monahan are not getting any faster?

He wasn't asking 6M AVV, he mentioned in his interview that was a bunch of bunk coming from one of the reporters.

He already said in the now famous interview that report is inaccurate. That's where the "he knows his worth" comments are coming from.

$4.25-4.5 mil AAV sounds pretty reasonable to me. Maybe a little higher than I'd like but what do you think sounds reasonable?

Brandon Carlo signed 6x4.1M
Zadorov is not worth more than that.

Hoping to see a 3 handle (assuming a shorter term deal), but would be very happy with 6 x $4.1

I wouldn't want Zadorov signed long-term...

I didn't know he was making $3.2M the last couple years, which is already ridiculous money for what he brings to the table. He's big and can hit, but in the games I watched against the Avalanche a couple years ago he was often out of position and prone to gaffes, and has limited offensive skills. Reading a little bit from Blackhawks reporters and bloggers it sounds like he was still the same player last year.
Honestly, given he doesn't look like anything better than a bottom-pairing defenceman, I wouldn't have acquired him in the first place. Frankly he looks like a replacement-level player to me.
A couple years at somewhere less than $4M AAV is really all I'd offer him, and even then I think that's a big waste of money.

If only young defensemen could improve over time.
He is not a replacement level defenseman. And he won't get paid like one.

He's 26, hardly a young pup, and he didn't improve last year.

Of that I have no doubt, even though it'll be a mistake. Realistically I'm guessing 3 yrs @ 4$M per, and that's a good $1-2M more than it really ought to be.

Still pretty young for defensemen, who typically hit their prime in heir late 20s. And you were referring to observations from a couple years ago, when he was 24, which definitely IS a 'young pup'.
