Certainly some intangibles that the teams handful of coaches, and, pro scouts see (or don't see) from Kylington, as to both why he is still here and why he is not playing even semi-regularly. Natural skill set seems there, certainly to be able to develop further.
At this point, best to cut bait, but it's also not a priority or is there any leverage or value that either side have to point to.

His assets are skating and offensive vision but he lacks good decision making when it comes to defence and makes a lot of low percentage plays. I dont know that he will ever figure it out riding the bench as much as he does. I always say it but I think the guy could be a serviceable NHL level winger. He could at least carve out a Tobias Redier type or maybe even Athanasiou like career at wing imo rather than being a below replacement level D man.

I’ve always wondered why they don’t try him at wing. That said, if its a practice issue they are probably not going to. It’s not like they would be inclined to stretch to fit him into the roster.

I’m leftist, and I could easily be described as stupid. I’m not “woke.” And I respect all of you who think I’m an idiot.
I wanted to clarify my comment since my comment is so unpopular. I’m not saying that the Flames are particularly racist or that I know the Flames have discriminated against Kylington on the basis of race. I’m saying it wouldn’t surprise me if either of those things is true because I believe implicit or unconscious biases pervade humanity in general, me included. I think -isms and -phobias are things we all must fight for the sake of a better world, and the Flames may be leaders in that fight for all I know. Treliving certainly did a good job of the Peters’ situation.

Just replying to someone's comment in the thread. Who's comment you didn't seem to have a problem with. Put your handbag down.

Kylington has shown some decent offensive production at the AHL level.
Not so much at the NHL level and his defensive game is certainly nothing to brag about.
Once again, it is a huge jump from the AHL to the NHL.
He cleared waivers at NHL minimum salary for a reason, earlier In 2021.
95 games...16 points.
24 years old and running out of time, nothing more and nothing less.

Cleared waivers. Didn't Tyler Johnson clear waivers? Didn't Markstrom at some point? The waivers argument is a pretty weak one.

Cmon, you can do better than that...
Were either of them at minimum salary?

I have watched this forum for many years, never seen a link or invite to the Kylington Booster Club…… this needs to be let go.
As I have said before, people get mesmerized by the skating ability. After that, there isn’t a ton there…..

This is completely fair. I just think he’s good enough to be given consistent minutes on the 3rd pairing for a full season. I want to see that before he’s gone.

For me, this is it.
He has tools, everyone can see that. But he has never shown any offensive game at the NHL level. He has just 'been there'.
His defensive game is not going to earn him a spot - it isn't horrific or anything, but he isn't stealing anyone else's job with his defensive play. He needs to bring something more than that. And so far, he just hasn't.

Part of the problem is those types of players don’t fit bottom pairings. You want very solid defensive minded defence-man in those spots who aren’t going to make big mistakes. It’s like putting a skill winger on the 4th line, it doesn’t work.

I agree that Kylington has a shorter leash than most of our other developing defensemen. I don’t think it has anything to do with racism in the organization. If the organization was racist why would they draft him in the first place? Why give him the opportunity? He had 3-4 coaches now and they all treat him the same way… I think it has more to do with something happening behind closed doors than anything else.

It’s probably because they think the other players are better.
