Game of inches. Vladdy just misses walking it off. Boston's 9 hitter hits a seeing eye single and that's ball game.
Still some concern with driving in runs late but splitting the double header ain't bad if they can win it tomorrow.

tough loss
Vladdy's hit in the 7th, if it is in any direction other than where it was, ends the game

Lucky to get the split having scored two runs in 15 innings today. Glad the manager went for the win to lock down one game.

the winning RBI was a grounder that was an auto out if they aren't in the shift. Batter has a total of 90 major league at bats (equivalent of one month of baseball) and they put the shift on

If someone has told you Jays would score two runs today in 15 innings you’d be happy with a split right? We could have very easily lost both today given the anemic offence. Others have posted it here already but the Jays bats are bad in late innings this year and you have to protect leads.

8-2 in their last 10 and still in 4th place in the division.
Also, still 3 games back of the wild card with the Yankees in between.
So frustrating. +122 run differential good for 4th best in the entirety of MLB.
Unbelievable that this team is where it is in the standings.
Really hope they can win tomorrow. A split would be a near disaster at this point.

Sox scored 2 runs as well.
The Jays didn't win one because of Montoyo's managing, they got the split because the pitching was great. You don't have to make up narratives

I took my oldest son to our first Jays game this afternoon. Semiens homer come right at us and dropped into the deck right below to win the game. In hindsight if it had about 20 more feet of height I may have caught that ball. Bit of a boring game for action as it turned out to be a pitching battle but to see a walk off homer was pretty cool.
Had a fun day with my oldest.

Not really a narrative. Ray is really bad at giving up home runs and he is really bad at pitching third time through an order. He was tiring in the sixth and bringing in Romano to protect the one run lead is a totally fine move. I think they lose both games if they leave Ray in there.
Now I still do want Montoyo fired myself but that’s because I’m annoyed at this crap approach they take late in games. How a team can be number one in OPS, 20th in OPS in 7th and on and 29th in late and close is beyond me. I want someone who can get more consistency of these players.

It was 0-0. There was no lead to protect.

They absolutely need to win today. Splitting this series would be a step back imo.
If they can win today I think it would only be a matter of time before the Jays can pass the Sox. The schedule is favourable and we know how the Jays like to beat up on lesser opponents. The sights need to be set on how to catch the Yankees, who might not lose again this season, and the Athletics. Going to be quite the race from here on out.

Did they say why, it looked like he rolled over his wrist during a dive in game one yesterday. After the play it seemed he was favoring it but that was my view from the outfield. I have no idea if they mentioned it during the broadcast or not

He is swinging at a lot of first pitches, regardless of location. He needs to get back to being patient. He has also been very unlucky for the past couple weeks - lots of hard hit grounders that were finding holes before but now aren't, and a few warning trackers that were homers before.
He'll get rolling again soon.
