Playing with Simon and Richie...heck even Monahan who was a shadow of his former self.

He had 22 points in the last 16 games when Sutter assembled and actual first line...he could have easily hit PPG IMO

just seems convenient for people to just ignore that season like it was 10 years ago. Proper line mates and he is PPG IMO.

Proper line mates and a proper coach and I have no doubt.

So, you are OK with the Flames waiting a moment before he becomes a UFA and see if he signs?

Huh? What?

Are you joking?

Contracts require two parties to agree, one party can’t unilaterally impose a contract on the other

Sure if he gets new linemates

But if he goes to the Flames and want to be paid like a 99pt scorer, I wouldn’t be surprised if he is leaving as a UFA.

How much do you think a 99pt scorer is worth? 10M minimum?

There seems to be a suggestion that since Landeskog signed at a discount at the very last second before UFA that Johnny could to.

That would mean risking him leaving for nothing.

My question was whether you were prepared to take that risk, or would you try and trade him prior to that. And at what stage? Prior to the season? Trade deadline when you are contending for a playoff spot?

I think the answer to those questions depend heavily on whether a trade for Eichel is completed.

Which may very well be what Johnny is waiting for.

I would imagine the timing of Landeskog’s contract extension had more to do with other deals, like Makar’s extension, than Landeskog himself.

The avs could afford to play chicken with landeskog because they have a ton of talent and they're a desirable destination. They would have been upset if he walked but life would go on for them.
The Flames can't afford that risk with Johnny. They've lost 2 of their top players for nothing in the past year. That can't happen again with one of, if not their most valuable asset. They need to get an extension done as soon as possible or find out if he won't sign one because they need to cash in on his value. By waiting this long, they can only trade him to one of the teams he wants to go to. They've already handled this poorly IMO but they must have a plan. They have to take a firm stance and make a decision at some point.

To my mind they have already messed this up, he now has them by the balls, they are going to have to pay some thing silly to stop him walking or try to move him at the trade deadline to one of his teams who will also have the team by the balls. We could very well lose him for nothing which would be a disaster but then as a flames fans we are all used to that.

It tells me 2 things:

1) He wants more than the Flames are willing to pay
2) The trade market for Johnny is not very good

It in reality doesn't tell you anything because you don't have the Information to actually come to that conclusion.

In other words, the known facts didn’t “tell” you anything. You just made an uninformed guess.

Sure, except he said that the info “told him” two things. It didn’t. And I could guess a whole bunch of possible things other than the two conclusions reached there.
