Sometimes it feels like the Calgary Puck user base is running the Edmonton Oilers.
Like... this is exactly what I would do.
To make 100% sure they have zero chance at re-signing McDavid, and no way to fix it till the 2030's.

I dont even care if they re-sign McDavid...in the near future that team isnt doing jack.
They sacrificed over-valuing and over-paying 'their guys' and prioritized that over actually competing.
They now have one of the most expensive defencemen in the League patrolling their blueline.

I have to believe that this was done under the assumption that it will be the compliance buyout in the next CBA. I can’t imagine any GM would sign this particular player to that contract. Right? Right?! What is going on up there?!
