I'd be surprised if people can name another non-symmetrical non-wordmark logo in the NHL that hasn't been reversed for a helmet design. It's bizarre to me why people are always fighting it.

The Flames going towards the back of the mask looks significantly better than going towards the face.

One that hasn't been reversed ever, or one that hasn't looked good when it was reversed?

I know Price had at least one mask with the Habs logo reversed on it and it looked awful.

I think various goalies have had flipped versions of the Canucks and Flyers logos too, but again, they always look bad. I don't think I've ever seen the Devils logo reversed on a mask. Dallas is another one, as is Seattle (for obvious reasons).


The only way to make it work, is to remove the letter part of the logo. With the Canucks, I think Markstrom had one with the orca reversed on one side of his mask, but it was zoomed in on just the orca portion, so it didn't look too bad. The same thing can be done with just the "wings" of the Flyers logo or just the flames of the Flames logo. If you remove the letter part of the logo, it won't look like a backwards letter.


I believe there was a time that the Flyers had their logo reversed on one side of their regular helmets (so the wings were to the back), and people hated it so much that they changed it pretty quickly.

Looks like Markstroms mask is going to be a giant skull with "Kipper" skulls on both sides along with the flaming C...and yes, one will be reversed. He has only posted it on Instagram, so here's his page: https://www.instagram.com/jboairbrush/?hl=en

Very awesome concept no doubt.

Although I recall the Tower logo looking more like the tower was part of the fire, like the spire was a flicker of flame. And it was placed on the cuff, which I thought was cool. Must’ve been on something else. Either way something similar could be cool.

He's shown some sneak peaks so far on his IG. It does look like he's got some sort of skull and the Flaming C. A nod to Kipper, Vernon and Kidd. Going to look dope when its all done.

Okay. That has potential to be the best Flames mask in years. We’ve seen some pretty lame masks here recently (looking at you Mike Smith with his cowboy cartoon kids).

I’m curious what colour palette he’s going to use. The Kipper/McElhinney/Ramo/Toskala skull masks all used a lot of black in them, which isn’t a primary team colour anymore now that we have gone back to the retros. If it’s true that Markstrom is actually doing up two different masks then maybe this one is a third jersey kind of thing?

I believe it’s been confirmed that the Flames won’t utilize a third Jersey this year. Lots of noise that they will bring back the reverse retro in 22-23 though
