That’s a nice looking roster. Seems like the Blues are paying more for Tkachuk than the Flames are for Eichel. I think one asset too many coming from St.Louis

You’re probably right. I just wasn’t sure how much value Parayko would have with one year on his contract. Flames would probably have to add more to get that return.
Would fit what Sutter wants though, another big D. And he can run a power play.

However, at the same time, he is very overrated by the fan base and that is because he is so beloved. He is not a $9M player. He can't skate. He can't penalty kill. He is a winger who primarily is used in a scoring role and if he can't provide that then he is pretty useless in a checking role because he can't skate. He is a 65 point LW who has an x-factor which is to #### disturb and to entertain. I understand that fans want players like that on the team because there always seems to be a lack of "give a ####" from the team but Tkachuk's antics can wear on a team over time. I believe people who have played team sports can attest to that.
You think Bergeron doesn't give a ####? Kopitar? Crosby? Ovechkin?
None of those guys act like Tkachuk. But anyway like I said - you can see it from both point of views...I love the guy as a fan because he's talented and entertaining. Maybe he's just not a fit for the team....and that's OK.
|
How Tkachuk plays and gets under the skin of opponents is not news. Why give him 'A' if people who played sports and now coach and manage teams think he will 'wear on his team mates' for competing hard?

Dammit, I am going to need a new CP name now. Mods, can you rename me to the "Eichel Tower" when he is traded to Calgary?

The thought of a healthy Gaudreau/Eichel/Tarasenko line is just drool worthy! That line would be nigh on impossible to contain.

It’s crazy that someone picks out Gio to hate. I mean, you can like him or be ambivalent or think he’s too old, but hateable?

I'm not sure how often Eichel and Tarasenko would be healthy at the same time.
But I agree.

I am just now back in the thought process that we need to use Tkachuk as our main trade chip and I think it should be easier to get a deal done that way.
People also saying “why would the Blues give up anything for Tkachuk now when they have him for free in 2 years” I don’t think that id a risk the Blues have interest in taking. The Flames could send Tkachuk to many markets that I think would have a shot at extending him. California (doubtful due to division), New York, Florida/Tampa, Boston, Philly, Pittsburgh etc all will have interest. The Blues are also a team that is aging quickly but still have some solid pieces in their prime so getting Tkachuk now makes sense to push to win ASAP and get Tkachuk at 23 years old.
Tarasenko will not come to Calgary and is not part of this deal in my opinion. He is the first domino to fall. Once he is moved out then I see a situation where the Flames work a 3 way deal with the Sabres and Blues or 2 separate deals
|
Is there anything media wise to suggest Tarasenko will not come to Calgary or is this one of those nobody wants to play here posts?

Say no more! I would actually be excited about the team again. At this point, anything short of Eichel being acquired by the Flames would be a disappointment. I think I'm setting myself up for disappointment. Prove me wrong - BT!

The most surprising thing I've found out during all of this is that there's a segment of people who seem fairly certain that a 23 year old can't learn from his mistakes.

STL will have to send cap back in any Tkachuk trade, my mind has always went straight to Tarasenko for obvious reasons, but I could certainly see Parayko being the big cap hit coming back if a deal with STL were to go down.
Parayko + Kyrou + Neighbors maybe?
Really don't like that Parayko is only a year away from UFA though, but he is a big right shot Dman with a booming slap shot. I could see Sutter loving that guy.

Actually though.
People get caught up in the what we're giving up talk but just THINK of the top line with every one back to health. Sweet Moses.
The guy I would feel happiest for is Gaudreau. Getting to play with proper talent is what he has deserved since he stepped into the league.
In a lot of ways we've held him back for many years by saddling him with secondary type guys.

I don't think he's terrible I just don't think he is a 9M player and I don't think will sign for a penny less than he can squeeze out of a team.
Some posters seem to love players the second they want out or are traded. I don't remember this much tire pumping for Tkachuk at 9M during the season.

I think Parayko only having a year left on his contract would give the Flames a reason to demand that at least one other future piece be included. Because if the return is just Parayko + Kyrou and Parayko walks after next year that becomes Tkachuk for Kyrou which would be terrible for us.
Tkachuk for Parayko + Kyrou + 2022 1st or Neighbours
If Buffalo covets both the STL 2022 1st and Neighbours, I would add more to get both.
Tkachuk + Kylington + 2nd/Petterson for Parayko + Kyrou + 1st + Neighbours

That's because last year was his worst season. We should wait and see how this year goes. Maybe he'll break out finally playing on the top line and be well worth 9M a season. There is still plenty of time to determine that.

Amen.
The way I am seeing it: Trade for players that give Gaudreau a reason to re-sign. I don’t blame him at all for not having decided yet.
