I'm meh on it. I think it's okay (some interesting lines and massing), but it's absolutely not great, or iconic, like other arenas. I guess one thing I'm worried about is the textures and materials on this project; they will definitely make or break the final presence of this building. If the clients and Dialog/HOK/CANA end up value engineering it downwards towards cheaper materials (as is often the case from the initial conceptual renderings), I'll be worried. That said, I'll be optimistic and hope the City and Flames stay the route.
Also, my coworker said it looks like a gigantic router, and that's all I can see now.

Of the existing arena's in the NHL, what would you consider iconic?

The orange glow on the pillar lookin things, and possibly on the lip of the roof are a nice touch to liven it up.

Its funny they said that. I kind of get PS5 vibes from the arena (not a criticism), which itself was often compared to a router.

MSG is probably the only one.

Yeah if the quality of materials used is strong then they way it looks in the renders should be a nice look. Looks similar to Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, which should be a surprise since that's the rumored look that the flames were going for here.
Also I think sometimes people think about "new stadiums" and think about the new football/soccer stadiums that tend to have more character. Rogers Arena, Little Caesars Arena, PPG Place, Prudential Center are all pretty similar. The only ones with more character I can think of are T-Mobile, and the Barclays, and honestly Barclays is kind of ugly having been there in person.
I know sometimes the fancy stadiums get lots of attention, especially when they are lit up at night. But often those look horrible in the day then.
Allianz Arena in Munich comes to mind for me. I remember seeing all the amazing photos of that stadium all lit up for games, and with the colors changing. But when I went there it was a day game and in the end the stadium just looked like a big white blob.

Yeah, it's not the most user-friendly site. I had to click a few times before it finally downloaded the documents.

I suspect it will be some kind of metal.

Maybe it's the flat roof that keeps the overall design from popping.
Like there are a lot of nice individual pieces there but how they all come together leaves some to be desired.
Its a modern building but a forgettable one at that. Whereas it is pretty well impossible to forget the saddledome. I suppose it's hard to be that unique these days, but I'm not sure that they really tried to be here.
If it serves its functions efficiently and has enough washrooms then at the very least its better than that other one in loserville.

I would say its a pretty utilitarian design. Limited curves which is a cost savings.
Looks fine to me as a person who will see the place maybe once in my life

I guess I'm disappointed because it just looks so bland. Like it's trying to be the least offensive as possible by just going super generic. It's not ugly, but it really doesn't stand out at all. Just a forgettable design overall so far.

More to like than to dislike about the building based on everything I've seen so far.

I like the look and can't wait to see a game there. Another excuse for me to get to Calgary

It's really too bad they didn't make it more similar to the BMO expansion. Now that one I really like.

As demonstrated a few pages earlier, the Saddledome was hardly unique.

It's the inside that matters most but I must say these new renders aren't overly exciting. Looks better outside than Rogers Place but still somewhat generic. That weird mesh overlay that's folding in the corner looks kind of odd.
