Even if he could do it, why the hell would BT publicly state anything about specific interest in a player? Has that happened every in the entire history of the league?

You cannot discuss players under contract with other teams I'm fairly sure. For example, you cannot have Treliving saying Connor McDavid would play with better players here or Calgary is hoping to sign Cale Makar to new contract once his is done

That he and the Flames are even considering or interested in trading top players and prospects for a "star" player. It sounds to me like they're done and this is pretty much going to be the team next season, maybe some other ufa signings.

Yes this thread here is a lot of speculation and possibly it would be tampering if the Flames said something.

I'm not against Eichel coming here but also realize it will mean giving up a lot. As others have said, even if the Flames get 3 playoff runs to the second round even with Eichel it would be good for the owners revenue wise I would think, it would be a good move from ownership and the GM.

I think Buffalo is asking a lot and are probably scoffing at a player like Sean Monahan because of "injuries" when the player they're trying to move has a much more serious injury/condition.

Do you still want to pay premium for that shiny new Ferrari even though you know it's in the autobody shop from the last accident it was in?

I am sure that if Brad was to make a statement it would be to the effect that the team doesn’t make statements about players under contract with other teams, or about conversations that go on with other general managers

Every player is a UFA some point. Expressing interest in a player that could be a UFA years from now is still tampering.

It's probably not something he is concerned about at the moment. He knows that winning will "soothe the fans," so I expect he is hyper-focused on what he believes will help the team to win.

Yeah I suppose. It also puts Brad's "it's a process" into perspective as his go to for these types of queries.

He's also in the hot seat so he needs to do something big! I don't think just making the playoffs and losing in the first round will be good enough for another season and try at it.

I agree. The Rangers and the Ducks are not including their top prospects and young players. Therefore, the Flames clearly have a chance, and I doubt they have to include a player like Tkachuk. Tkachuk is too valuable to be one of four pieces.

Yeah, exactly. The Rangers, as of last rumour, weren’t even willing to include their 2nd tier guys - so Kakko etc. certainly isn’t on the table (so far). Also, when the Pegula’s say they want him out West, they aren’t going to trade him to the Rangers for anything short of a grotesque overpayment - if at all.

I personally think its a mistake for the Sabres to ask for a bunch of pieces. Duchene was an exception, but generally speaking, teams lose trades when they ask for numerous pieces for one really good player. Based on history, I don't think the team that gets Eichel will end up giving up a lot of really great pieces unless Adams is as patient as Sakic. (And I don't think the current circumstances will even allow Adams to be that patient.)
