Funny stuff about Keith too. I want to see this sauna-in-a-suitcase you can build in your hotel room .

I think that is where last season fell apart, Tkachuck wanted to leave it all out there and push hard but there were some that couldn't be bothered imo.

I think Zadorov is gonna love having Sutter as a coach based on how he feels about Mackinnon.

That interview was fantastic. I am now a big Zadorov fan.
Keith sounds like a total loon. Makes me even more happy with the whole Edmonton debacle.

He does sound like a bit of a dick on the ice. But unless you have a guy or guys like that on your team it’s pretty tough to win championships.
Someone has to hold people accountable towards being the best.

Can you imagine what Mackinnons opinion is on Kadri now after a second playoff suspension? Oh boy. I’m sure Nate had a word or two for him.

Is there any proof that is true? In most professions having some kind screaming at you constantly is going to reduce performance rather than increase it.

People tend to learn from those they are around.
Mackinnion trains with Crosby and are buddies. Mackinnion also had Iginla in the dressing room from his 2nd to 4th year.
Everything Zadarov described about Mackinnion has been said about Crosby and Iginla too.
Iggy was a bit of a prick to Connie when he first arrived.
The key is that these guys know when they've crossed the line and seem to know when to apologize and soothe things out.
You have to have that kind of crazy competitiveness and demand for excellence to succeed.

Yeah, there’s being competitive and then there’s being an egomaniac. Yelling at young players who don’t put the puck exactly right on your stick in practice? If a coach did that we’d call him an ####### who’s stuck in the 90s. Dictating that the whole team has to comply with your dietary regime? Talk about entitlement.
What happened to the notion that no one player is more important than another? Whenever the curtain is pulled back on the team dynamics of pro sports, I can’t help but find the ferociously hierarchical, ego-driven culture obnoxious. Vets ####ting on rookies, star players being catered to and indulged, the pecking-order governing all. Frankly, the less I know about what goes on off the ice, the better.

There’s a lot of different ways to be a prick. Sometimes it’s useful. It sounds like Zadorov took the good out of it. Some might take the bad. Sounds like MacKinnon steps up and admits when he’s over the line.
As far as instilling proper diet, practice habits and work ethic in teammates. I’ll take that allllll day.

I think it depends on what the demands are. In those examples, he's demanding excellence. It's not like he's blowing up a teammate for playing crappy music in the dressing room.
He's demanding that they take practice seriously and that they take their health and fitness seriously.
Are parents bad for telling kids not to eat too much candy?

Mackinnon isn’t their parent. It’s a work place and these are adults.

Come again? I mean, yeah, Iginla was sullen toward Conroy when he was acquired because he was bewildered by losing Stillman in the same deal. This stuff about MacKinnon is on a whole other level.
Since the Avalanche have yet to get themselves out of the second round, then I remain highly sceptical that his on-ice treatment of his teammates is in any way helpful, and conducive to winning.

Send a memo to all the players?
RE: Passes on the ice.
It has come to my attention that passes on the ice need to make it to the player being passed to. Please make sure that this is happening.
Regards,
Glen Gulutzen.

They are if they resort to screaming at their kids to effect compliance.

We should remember it’s a translation too. Words like “yelling” or “screaming” can sound harsher in one language or another.
Zadorov, a teammate who was probably on the wrong end of MacKinnon more than once (which he states) seemed to appreciate and admire his competitive and willingness to try and make the team better. So I’ll take his stance on it until another teammate says otherwise.

I remember Sundin yelling at guys who gave him a lousy pass as well
The split second you lose makes a difference. We have seen it here fairly often the past few years
These guys get paid millions, they are paid to execute at a high level, at speed
I agree that he sounds like a bit of an a-hole. The expectations are likely right. One thing is they weren’t clear how he yells at people. If it’s shouting across the rink so his teammate can hear him, it’s pretty normal, and not the same as getting up in his face.
Sundin shouted across the rink. He came across more like a guy who demands the best out of himself and his team

Matthew Tkachuk wanted his teammates to try so hard that he quit trying hard himself?
Slap a C on him
