Two.
MacInnis (1981), and Gary Roberts (1984).
The best 1st round pick of the 21st century, by a wide margin, is Sean Monahan.

It perplexes me that anybody wants to move Tkachuk. It perplexes me further that people are suggesting moving him for a package that is centered around a $7.5 million dollar 30 year old with only 34 games to his name over the past 2 seasons.
We get Eichel and then do that? Would be awful.
The Blues haven’t been able to give Tarasenko away. No combination of Kyrou, prospects and picks can close the gap on value between Tkachuk and Tarasenko.

So 2 in 41 years...and even then we don't know where Eichel ranks at the end of his career.
Seems like a reasonable risk to me

The only way you move Tkachuk is if he either asks for a trade or indicates he wants to be a UFA after his QO year. Ideally you lock him up for 8 years.

Oh, I dunno about Roberts. Great career and a 50 goal season in the live puck era, but skill wise I think Eichel is probably better. Obviously we’ll see.

Did you watch Gary Roberts play? He was the ultimate power forward. Eichel would have to have a hell of a career to top Roberts.

I like Tkachuk but he was an absolute bum most nights last season. Is he gonna be a 9M player?
Kings ransom would be tempting...I mean if this team had so many awesome players that we don't want to give anything up why did they suck balls?

Yes, I watched him play. No he wasn’t the “ultimate power forward”. You won’t find his name in any list of top power forwards ever. His top year was 1991-92, when he scored over 50 and had 90 points. But back then, that was great but not elite. 17th in the scoring race, one ahead of Vincent Danphousse.
I just think Eichel has way more tools and a much higher ceiling.

Just a reminder that Jack Eichel was ranked the #6 center in the league at 23 before last season. He could certainly pass Roberts

I believe the man you're looking for is Bob MacKenzie.
If we can just get him to tweet it, it's a done deal.

Yeah, I’m not disparaging Roberts at all - he just wasn’t as dominant in his era as I could see Eichel being. In his 53 goal/90 point season, which was his peak, 21 year old Roenick scored 53 goals and 103 points. Kevin Stevens (who is listed on lots of power forward top ten lists) was at 123 points.

I dunno, Tarasenko with Kyrou and a 1st in the Wright draft is a good package.
But I'm still a fan of Tarasenko and believe you would end up with Hamilton trade type return making that trade.

If Eichel has a healthy career, he's a future HOFer. Not to take anything away from Roberts, because he was a great player, but he's not in the same class as Eichel

The first whether it is in Wright draft or not will be in the 20s. Finding a top 6 forward in that range is not easy. Looking back a decade you can probably count them on one hand.

Point is, two firsts in the Wright draft helps you potentially move up to snag an impact player. It will be deeper in talent than this past draft and much better scouted.

I'm not so sure about that first being in the twenties. I really don't think St.Louis is a lock for playoffs.

I figure with them going back to the previous format 3 teams from the pacific and 5 from the central will probably make it. I think they would definitely be in that mix.

Eichel had Hart trophy votes a few years ago. I'm one of the biggest Gary Roberts fans around, but I admit than when Eichel's career is over, he will probably be regarded as the better player.

IMO, the value of the St. Louis speculation is in this order :
Scott Perunovich
2022 1st round pick
Jordan Kryou
Vlad Tarasenko (due to injury concern)
I would almost look at this as an unattached inquiry from the Eichel talk, except that this would free up all of the pieces to land Eichel, well not taking a step back (on paper) coming into this next year (should the ask for Eichel be Monahan, Valimaki, 2022 1st).

Will Eichel put up more points? Certainly. Given the choice of who to take into the battle in the playoffs with both in their prime I take Gary Roberts 10 out of 10 times.
