Another thing that annoys me is when people use 'purpose' instead of 'propose'.

How what could be interchangeable? Her family? Perhaps if your girlfirend has a twin sister, she could be interchangeable, but I doubt that you'd please her father by treating him the same way as you treat your girlfriend.
Or do you mean that you do not see how 'ignorant' and 'rude' could be considered interchangeable?

The spelling error that drives me nuts is the confusion of 'queue' and 'cue'.
'Cue' is a notice for a person/group to begin something.
i.e. 'Cue the band.' or 'Cue the Winnipeg Jets fans....' or 'An off-stage door slam was his cue to enter.'
A 'queue' is a a file or line, esp. of people waiting their turn.
i.e. That is a long queue to get tickets.
You don't want the Jets fans to get in a line. You are indicating that they are going to begin complaining about not having an NHL team anymore.

Easily, the most annoying error for me is using apostrophes where they don't belong. Some people think that plurals warrant an apostrophe. It drives me crazy. Example: I bought several package's of envelope's. Arggghhh.
Bad spelling, too. That also drives me crazy.

I may have mentioned this on here before, but people mixing up 'premise' and 'premises' is one that gets me. Premise, singular, always refers to the logical construct. Premises can refer to the plural of logical constructs, or singular or plural building and adjacent land. But yet I hear people using 'premise' to describe buildings, and 'premises' to describe singular logical constructs. I had a coworker (a professional writer) who could not see the problem with the following: "We were told to evacuate the premise on the premises that it was on fire."

I remember it like this;
If you can replace it with "as well", then it's "too". If not, it's "to".
I think that's right.
One thing that drives me nuts is when people underline text in documents. Underline is for typewriters because they couldn't italicize letters. Your computer can so stop it. This drives me nuts on teh internets.

Haha I was going to skip the entire thread and post my one and only spelling pet peeve: rediculous vs. ridiculous. I don't know what it is but whenever I see someone make this mistake it just makes me shake my head and ignore whatever else it is they have to say. I swear to God most everyone spelt it right for the longest time and then it was almost as if one person came along and threw the "e" in there and everyone hopped on board and ruined a great word.
Clearly whoever made an entire website devoted to this feels the same way...

A neat mind-trick, apparantly our brains are really good at figuring out words as long as the first and last letters are correct...for example
i cdnuolt blveiee taht I cluod aulaclty uesdnatnrd waht I was rdanieg. The phaonmneal pweor of the hmuan mnid, aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it dseno't mtaetr in waht oerdr the ltteres in a wrod are, the olny iproamtnt tihng is taht the frsit and lsat ltteer be in the rghit pclae. The rset can be a taotl mses and you can sitll raed it whotuit a pboerlm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe. Azanmig huh? yaeh and I awlyas tghuhot slpeling was ipmorantt!

Easily my least favorite error on CalgaryPuck.
Did the player resign, or did they re-sign?
At some points it is as if the whole team is leaving.

From the site rules:
6. Thou shalt pay rudimentary attention to thy grammar and spelling. You don't have to win a Pulitzer for what you post here, but try to show at least a semblance of intelligence.
So if you are intentionally writing your posts with bad grammar and spelling that is a violation of the board rules.

X2 with a bullet!
It's not that confusing when its a player that re-signs and the thread title says resigns because players don't really resign. They retire
But when its a coach then it gets confusing
A thread title can say something like this
"Jim Playfair resigns"
I'd be like "WTF?", go into the thread and find out that Jim just signed a multi year extension, when the thread title gives the exact opposite impression

Does anybody know why our language has two words that are almost identical and have opposite meanings?
The on the other side of the coin, both Flammable and Inflammable mean the exact same thing as each other.
