Brown with light accents, see post 37. Reminds me of the old Jubilee auditorium.

So, the old renders? I was talking about the obviously much more current one in the OP, which to my eye is considerably different than the old renders that AC posted.

They should go full Art Deco. That never goes out of style.

We’re currently on stage 3 of any major project that takes place in Calgary: “pissing and moaning, part 1.”
Here are the stages:
1. Calgarians want/need/are told about a new project. (Much pissing and moaning about how badly this project is needed usually, but not always, precedes this stage).
2. The project gets started.
3. An extended period of pissing and moaning about the exorbitant cost and horrendous design of the project.
4. The project is completed.
5. A second period of pissing and moaning about the exorbitant cost, horrendous design, and terrible functionality of the project.
6. Outside observers comment favorably on the high quality/design/aesthetic/functionality/economic return of the project.
7. Ferocious, thoughtless civic pride. The project is the GREATEST example of this particular thing that has ever been, or at the very least better than whatever trash they have up in Edmonton, and anyone who says different is a goddamn communist.

Obviously much more current? There are renders from different angles, looks like the same structure to me.
Pretty tough to make a conclusion from one single image and ignore the other ones but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I still don’t see the modern design elements which I really don’t believe was the intent of the designers. As I’ve said, I don’t hate it. Expecting a lot of those thick wooden hand railings, carpet and ashtrays at every seat.

If you cannot see the clear differences between them, then I can't help you. Several aspects of the design change have been discussed in this thread.
And yes, you are right about the difficulty in drawing conclusions from a single image, but this is what we have to go on so far. I am not a designer, but I am a creator and I have to think there are very good reasons why the earlier renders posted by AC were never made public. It is the same reason I do not go ahead and publish every draft stage of every article or book that I write. So, no, I don't believe that every leaked image is particularly helpful in helping us to form opinions in tbe end.

Those other renders aside from the only official render that's on post #1 of this thread were from the design concept stage that were primarily about building massing, and not the true sense of how the design will look when finalized. And those leaked designs were apparently from last year, and you can tell there were some changes from them since then in the official render.
There's honestly nothing else that has been provided for us to have an impression on how the rest of the building looks from the outside. Shoot, even the render publicly released may look different from the actual final design.
I'm sure we'll be seeing what the whole building will actually look like fairly shortly.

Then you can’t help me… Come on man, can’t we discuss our opinions on the few drawings that have been made available without that?

Sure, but I think in this thread far too much weight has been assigned to the (very crude) renderings that AC posted, and conclusions ARE being drawn from these. Can we agree that that is a mistake?

Some people say the renderings look modern. I don’t see it but happy it doesn’t appear gaudy or overly metallic, shiny etc. like some bad looking arena/stadiums I’ve seen.
I don’t really want to argue with people who are making any extreme conclusions, they can do their thing.

Not with the current price of wood. Expect a “wood look” composite.

Maybe if you took your bottles back you could afford to go.
There will be plenty of events the average person/family will be able to afford to go to. You statement is just false.

I just realized that the render looks like it was inspired by a stapler I use at work including colors and shape...
https://www.swingline.com/p/staplers...lver-s7087845/
It kinda looks like it was inspired by this stapler when it was upside down.

As long as it has an escalator longer than the one in Edmonton all will be good.
