We know how Sutter loves his defence and wants to keep games close. Iirc Treliving identified this as a need during last season, and with the expansion draft behind us, this could be the play. Trade a f for a d, then sign nick ritchie to replace the F. Probably another D that’s hard to play against, that seems to be the theme this off season.

I hope you're right...

Am I the only one who thinks Ryan Murray is really Vanilla? Like, really "meh"?

I would bet that Treliving has already spoken to Stone, and that they will re-sign him close to training camp, just to keep the flexibility as open as possible.

Must be great for the poor guy thats hes the last resort option after absolutely every other option has been looked at.

Better than going into training camp on a PTO somewhere.

I feel like he’s been 84 overall with elite potential for at least a decade.

There was a suggestion in the Athletic that the Isles have already signed Parise, Cizikas, Palmieri, and Zajac, but the Isles are just holding on to the announcement due to Lou not wanting anyone else to know their cap picture just yet.
The same article speculated that Murray might be heading for the Islanders, just for the dearth of any rumours about him whatsoever.

FWIW the DFO podcast (Seravalli and Gregor) says there are 5 offers on the table for Murray right now, one of which is the Oilers.
Murray might not be overly exciting, but he is the best d-man left on the UFA market.

In this day and age, i can’t imagine how they can hide all these signings…

Hope not. Loved the human band aid description on the daily faceoff podcast. Doesn’t scream tough to play against. Guys that may fit that description and may be available
Matt Dumba - if Guerin isn’t a mony fan, don’t know what we would send them. Has a modified ntc too. 2 years left until ufa
Mattias Ekholm - rumored to be on the block. Left shorn but rock steady. Only one season left until ufa though.
Hampus Lindholm - don’t know what Anaheim is doing. Left shot but good shut down d. Only one season left until ufa
Damon Severson - behind Hamilton in NJ now. Rh shot and good size. 2 years left on deal until ufa. Nj needs scoring
Colton Parayko - stl really wants chucky, would they part with parayko as part of package? Rh shot but one year from ufa
Cernak/Sergachev - probably a pipe dream but if Tampa needs to lose cap, would either player be available for a high pick? Both can play right side and 2 years left on deal until Rfa

Not really sure why you are listing a group of right shot D when the Flames opening in the top 4 is on the left side?

None of those are viable options and in some cases would cost a substantial amount to get

Half joking but what about throwing a 1 year deal at Chara to play 3rd pairing LD and a veteran presence to the D corps that’s now missing with Gio going to Seattle. Put up 10 points in 55 games last year while playing 18+ minutes a night and leading all caps in PK minutes too.

Another Vet I’d look at especially if we do land Eichel and have pieces like Monahan and Dube going the other way would be one of Cizikas or Zajac with my preference being Cizikas. Both are faceoff wizards and Cizikas has good experience playing with heavier, meaner guys and would look great on a line with Lucic and Lewis IMO.
Lucic (139) - Cizikas (112) - Lewis (71) — combined for 322 hits last season.

Rumour is that both are signed with the Islanders but they are withholding it for some reason.

Other than maybe Severson, all these guys will cost substantially . At least a top 6 player and or first picks

Allow me to quietly blend a couple of rumors together into one mega rumor :
Quote:
The source said emphatically that Tarasenko should have been traded by now and that the Blues are only further diminishing his value by hanging on to him this long.
“The trajectory doesn’t get any better,” the source said. “They #### on this guy … to their own detriment. It’s time to move him. The train has left the station.”
|
https://theathletic.com/2737558/2021...e-to-move-him/
To Calgary : Vlad Tarasenko
To St. Louis : Jason Zucker
To Pittsburgh : Milan Lucic and Oliver Kylington
Man, it would be nice to have an explosive natural RW, even if there is a risk that his shoulder doesn't hold up for the whole two year contract. He says he is ready to go. The price has hit rock bottom. Cap hit to Calgary would be an additional 2.5 million. worth it for the upgrade.
