Frankly I can see why eichel wants to go with the replacement.

Both surgeries work very nicely. Fusion more rigid and stable, hence historically preferred for those engaged in more physically risky activities. Artificial disc carries a small but higher risk of device migration, which is bad if it happens.
Fusion alters biomechanics of the spine. This is usually not noticeable for the patient, but the changes in mechanics results in a slightly elevated risk of an adjacent disc degenerating (a domino effect). This risk is reduced by using an artificial disc which preserves mobility, if even at a level that the patient doesn’t notice. That’s the primary (and perhaps only real) rationale for doing artificial disc over fusion.
I’ve oversimplified to some extent, but hopefully this helps clear the air.

I think that the final pay for Eichel will be less than what is being suggested here and elsewhere.

From my understanding the surgical procedures are low risk nowadays. However, the issue is how this fusion and replacement would hold up at the NHL level. Wonder what your thoughts are on that.

I remember seeing one fan tweeting that Eichel would be dealt on July 31st, 4:51 PM MT.
If that actually happened that would be spooky.

Yes, both very low risk. Hard to say what best for Eichel without seeing him or his imaging. Historically fusion has been preferred for football/hockey players because of contact risk. Artificial disc is pushing the envelope to some degree, probably slightly higher risk, but doesn’t make it wrong. There’s no absolute single right answer unfortunately!

I read that too. Hopefully that poster would do free psychic readings for all their CP friends, if that came true.

So I believe what you are saying is that if done right with ample amount of time to recover then he could go on to have a successful nhl career?

The Anaheim Ducks, Calgary Flames and New York Rangers are among the teams still involved in trade talks with the Sabres. The Los Angeles Kings, Vegas Golden Knights and Minnesota Wild are no longer believed to be in the mix, barring a sudden change in direction, while the Boston Bruins may have circled back, one league source speculated.
|
I think what helps the Flames is that they don't have a single untouchable in their prospect pool. No one that Buffalo can demand that would make Treliving walk away.
Anaheim doesn't want to include Drysdale or Zegras. Getting Eichel might also not make sense as they are still early in the rebuild process.
Same thing with NYR, but them being in the same state is another thing they have going against them.
I remember Pagnotta having the Flames interested in Eichel as far back as the start of April. I hope it's true.

Gotta make sure he is aware of the Rockets vs Smarties situation
It’d be fishy for a US based player to like Rockets, and the border guards may be confused if Eichel tries to come in calling them Smarties
Very risky

Give them the next 3 and nothing else. I don't care. There is time to recover these things if everything doesn't work out. If it does then it's cheap.

Gotta think it's 3 years before we know a Eichel trade has gone bad. Realistically if the procedures don't work out 100% there are 2 to 3 seasons of 'maybe he will maybe he wont's'.
So the next 3 firsts aren't a whole lot in that context, and lines up with the Sutter contract which I think the consensus is that it is not rebuild inclusive. And we would be middling in the standings anyways.
That is a risk worth taking for a franchise guy where the prognosis is pretty promising if you take his camps word at...85% value.
