Ray is probably sitting in that range for next year. Hoping we can get him on a Zach Wheeler contract

Very good article

Interesting the different sites and how they rank prospects. Baseball America doesnt even have Woods in the top 100

Quote:
The Blue Jays paid a steep price to acquire a year and a half of that consistency. Martin, last year’s No. 5 overall pick, was viewed by many in the industry as the best all-around player in the draft class. It was a legitimate surprise when he slipped beyond the No. 2 overall pick and fell to the Jays with the fifth selection. He’s currently ranked as the No. 16 prospect in the game at MLB.com, No. 21 at Baseball America and No. 23 at FanGraphs.

I have faith in trusting Atkins and Shapiro here because IMO they've proven that they understand these players and prospects a lot better than we do.

Hell fans didn't like that we "only" got SWR and Kay for Stroman to start with because they weren't top prospects....now we are mad we traded SWR who developed into a top prospect.
Yeah. You’re right. I guess I’m getting caught up in the moment but I really liked the upside of both guys. I just don’t know what their sustainability plan is for bringing in similar ceiling prospects. I’ve started to trust their management in the past year and a deal like this totally seemed to go against their principles on the surface. But perhaps they don’t think too highly of the guys, and as talent evaluators that’s well within their skill and deserve the benefit of the doubt.

Both these guys have fallen down the MLB prospect rankings since the start of the season

If you include Manoah you could easily argue Martin is our 4th best prospect (Pearson and Grosham) and Woods comes in around 9/10. A lot easier to stomach then 15th and 60th in all of baseball (Where they were at start of year)

We have lots of studs coming up

I'm excited yep.

A little bit of sticker shock, but bring on Berrios! (and extend him lol)

Yeah, their bullpen needs a couple arms. I hope the price isn’t high and they just take on a money dump to make it happen.

You could argue 6th for Martin behind also Moreno and Martinez

Just read the news.

I REALLY didn't want to give up Martin in any trade so this one stings bad. I don't know how to feel but we really really needed the legit arm coming in.

####.

Chatwood being DFA'ed to make room for Berrios is a silver lining for sure.

I for one am looking forward to Montoyo pulling Berrios after 86 pitches and 5 IP.

I really want them to re-sign Ray. I think he's another ace in the making. Could be a championship starting rotation even with a filler 5th starter.

I think their thought is they already have similar ceiling prospects:

At Shortstop
Bo Bichette: 23
Austin Martin: 22
Jordan Groshans: 21

Groshans is probably outperforming Martin in AA this year, and our All-Star SS at major league is still only 23.

RH Pitcher
Pearson - 24
Manoah - 23
SWR - 20
Kloffenstein - 20
Hogland - 21

At pitcher they probably feel like Pearson and Manoah are ahead of SWR. They just drafted Hogland in the first round here.

It's a big price to pay but Atkins and Shapiro had built enough depth in the prospect base that they can overpay here to get a guy that is 27 years old, that is a top 5/10 pitcher in the AL, and that they might be able to re-sign.

If Martin ends up becoming a better player than Bichette then sure it's probably a bad trade, but considering Bichette is only a year older and is already an MLB All-Star I'm not sure I see that happening.
