Cizikas is gonna be way too expensive for his role. I think people will be surprised at what he signs for

Treliving has likely accepted that if you are going to sign him, it will likely be for 8 years and will likely include some kind of NMC/NTC. So once you have those things in place, it’s finding comparable numbers around the league.
I think the final number is $8 million. Gaudreau’s camp might be asking for $9 million while the flames are likely offering $7 million.
Obviously I’m over-simplifying it. It’s a complicated process that every team/player goes through. Just frustrating that if both the team and the player want to get this done, it should be easier to get it done.

I personally don't find it that strange. There is a lot that goes into deal making for multi-million dollar transactions and running various models / scenarios etc. I'm sure the agents are running a million scenarios and spreadsheets and going back and forth to player and then negotiating and then team takes that and goes back and runs their models and thinks about it and on and on and on.
This stuff takes a long time to do actually.

Love to hear Holland isn’t done
Murray is a bit weird though. Keith on the third pair I guess?

As I said in my last paragraph, it’s obviously more complicated than that. Lots of complex negotiations take a long time. I’m just saying we all wish this process could be more efficient. Similar to our frustration as fans when there is a lockout… we all know where the number will likely end up. But both sides have to go through the long process of negotiating and posturing to get to that number.

I wonder if the Flames will sign Gustafsson. The Flames desperately need another option on the PP, and it looks like Gustafsson won't be getting much money.
There aren't a lot of other PP options available for defense.
Gustafsson was regularly a healthy scratch this past year, so I doubt there's a lot of demand.

For league min or close I think he would be a good add
Our PP1 QB options are really weak right now and if we are committing to Sutter shut down hockey a strong powerplay would be very nice
He wasn’t THAT bad here during the bubble I thought

You have to understand there is still negotiating going on. If Brad goes “oh lets just get this done”, they can sense urgency (weakness) and sets the bar super high. Now what are you going to do? Pay their price? Its a cat and mouse game and eventually both sides will bend as they face other pressures (season about to start, etc). It is “part of the process”.

No thanks. Did you watch him in Montreal? Hopefully there are better pieces out there.

Inquiring about Gaudreau's status isn't what I would call a hard question. I get the sense 960 was asked not to inquire about Johnny which would be odd. I get that he would probably answer the same old "negotiations are ongoing" but still it's a pressing matter from a fan's point of view.

You are ignoring the element that time plays in negotiations. Making the other side wait (and potentially stew) about the decision plays a huge part.
You are also assuming that each side is looking for what is considered the right number based on comparables. It's possible neither side cares what is the correct number based on comparables. We recently say Landeskog sign a likely below market deal for his services because that's what Colorado could pay and he really wanted to stay.
Johnny could be saying "if you want me to sign today, before I test the market, the number is $10M for 8 years, otherwise I'll go to market". Obviously above his market value right now, but he has every right (if he wants) to suggest that's his number to ink a deal today.

As far as UFAs go, the only other defenseman who has any remote offense whatsoever is Vatanen. And he only had 6 points in 39 games.
I think even Hanafin is probably better offensively than Vatanen at this point.

Man I hope the Oilers give up a first to upgrade to Korpisalo.
The last two seasons:
Korpisalo: 70 GP, .903 sv pct, -11.72 GSAA
Koskinen: 64 GP, .910 sv pct, +2.74 GSAA

I hope GMs just don't help out the Oilers in any way.
Its much more fun to watch them flounder. Let them sleep in that ugly bed they've made on the backend for this season.
Not that Murray is an answer or anything.

The Flames need to stop targeting guys that no one else wants. There is a reason why he gets scratched so much. He's terrible.

I thought we don't like signing washed up vets blocking our young players?
I'd rather just let Kinnvall, who profiles as a PP specialist and is a right shot try it out.
Sutter also liked Hanifin running the PP and Anderson and Valimaki both have the skills to do the job.

Koskinen + top D prospect (according to oil fans) + 1st for very questionable upgrade on Koskinen? Ken Holland, Flames legend.

Honestly sounds pretty fair to take on a buyout contract and gain a pretty good goalie.
