I bet the Ritchie brothers would love to play together but they are probably worried about too much toughness on the Flames leading to Brett getting sat on popcorn row too much.
Nick probably wants assurances from Darryl that Brett will play regularly and Darryl's response will be "###### Off. (well maybe not, but probably something like "you two will play if you do what I say").
In all seriousness, I could see this being an issue. The last thing you want is to cost your brother his job.

The best part is that the Oilers were looking to move Kassian and his cap hit, but now they are probably scared to because of how tough the Flames are. So making the Flames tougher is actually making the Oilers worse because they have to keep Kassian in the lineup.

Brett works hard. Darryl won't sit him.

Except Kassian’s not a real tough guy. Khaira was tougher just for standing in with Brett Ritchie.

Just getting hyped up for the season to start now. No stupid north division and fans in stands has me feeling pretty good. Well that and the crown royal.

They don't play the same position.
Also, there are always injuries.
I am sure Nick would be more excited about the possibility of playing with his brother, than be worried about costing him his job.

First Line Centre
|
Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Mangiapane - Monahan - Coleman
Lucic - Backlund - Dube
N. Ritchie - Pitlick - B. Ritchie
That fourth line would be scary. And you’ve got Lucic on the 3rd line. So, there’s plenty of toughness.

Nick Ritchie better than 4th line though. And Pitlick isn’t a centre.

4th line gets minutes under Darryl though. Plus the blender.

I guess maybe Lewis is the fourth kind centre. Maybe we don’t have a spot for Nick Ritchie?

That’s kind of the issue for me. I like him, but he really needs Lucic’s spot.

Lewis doesn't really play much center either. He "can" play it but I would hope the team wants a regular center at 4C. Too often teams neglect their 4C, but look at any cup winner and their 4C was a big contributor all year

Gaudreau-Lindholm-Tkachuk
Mangiapane-Monahan-Coleman
Ritchie-Backlund-Pitlick/Dube
Lucic-Dube/Lewis-Ritchie/Lewis
If they sign Nick, I see the lineup shaping up like this.
I think Mangiapane and Coleman with Monahan will get him going. Two fast and defensively responsible and hard working guys.
Ritchie and Lucic are similar but I think Ritchie is a better player now just due to youth. I think Lucic would be ok with going to the "4th line" as he is a leader; plus he'd likely be playing with Dube or Lewis who are two of his buddies.
The line up isn't as exciting as having Jack Eichel but it's a very intriguing lineup.

Would Brassard fit that role?

Trevor Lewis is seemingly being forgot about here as well. He can and has played C for Sutter before.
And yes, Nick Ritchie is a better player than Lucic at this point.
Power F's often take longer to reach their peak and he is in that window now. Has all the makings of a guy who is ready to "pop" compared to his career thus far.

Signing Ritchie kind of squeezes out Dube, which suggests that including him in an Eichel deal is doable

I wonder if Ritchie is in a holding pattern waiting for the flames as they try to get eichel. Wouldn’t surprise me if the flames are his first choice because of his brother. They probably want to know their cap space after an eichel deal to know what they can offer him. Wouldn’t surprise me if he’s willing to wait at least for a little longer to let the flames make their best offer to him after getting eichel.
Just seems like Ritchie would have a contract by now from some team. This is just a possible explanation as to why he has not been signed.
