There is nothing we could possibly trade that is more watchable than the player in this video.

He needs a surgery - so what. We just manufactured a dozen different coronavirus vaccines in 10 months after never doing it the previous 4 billion years. I think the doctors have it covered.

Christ.

Doesn't matter. Eichels presumed first surgery is much more significant than any of Monnys combined. And to add to that, the Flames don't have to throw everything including the sink and the baby in the bathwater to have Monahan play for us.

Monahan = free and will still play

Eichel= costs the earth, the sun, the moon and the stars and will likely miss a significant amount of time and has a chance to never play the same way again and costs 50m for the rest of his contract.

It such a huge difference I'm shocked it's being debated.

Okay, enjoy another year of the clown show.

What's the problem? Did you expect anything different? We all hope a big change is coming. I just think it'd be really wise to sit back and take a proper look at the Eichel situation and weight it out.

Of course it's a supe sexy idea to land a big fish like Eichel, but the risk/cost/ benefit has to be examined with critical thinking and not based on wild hopes.

Who doesn't want a top line RHS center who's 25? Nobody. Nobody doesn't want that. It's the stuff of dreams.

The real clown show would be trading for the guy and offloading your organizational depth and having it all go wrong and that has to be the top of the list of checked boxes.

Eichel is a massive risk. Massive massive massive.

It’s being debated because of the possible upside. The existing risk of trotting out similar roster to previous years is another playoffs miss so for me, the greater upside/greater risk has some appeal.

Honestly at the end of the day, if the Flames pull it off, I'm not going to cry about it. But I also believe throwing caution to the wind is a terrible thing to do.

IF... IF we get him... Does he ask Lanny for permission to wear 9, or does he pick another number?

I mean don't ger me wrong, Lanny's the King, but it would be pretty cool to see another #9 out there, especially with the jerseys we have now.

He should wear 98 or 97 to piss off the folks up north.

If you can get Eichel in a deal where Monahan gets shipped out you have to do it. Two birds kind of thing.

I look forward to an Eichel acquisition by Calgary, followed next summer by a Sportsnet documentary all about his miraculous rehab after surgery.

Eichel would be a huge upgrade on Monahan, but the assets required to get Eichel would really hinder the Flames’ ability to build a decent team around him.

Eichel’s fine if the cost is reasonable - I just don’t think it will be.

I'm of the mind there is no unreasonable price for the Flames to pay now.

Why sort of go all in? Lottery protect the picks if you can, but ante up and don't get outbid.

Assuming as you seem to, the price is Monahan, or Monahan is used to acquire the assets. and assuming the deal is mostly futures as is rumoured, most proposals I've seen still have Gaudreau, Lindholm, Mangiapane, Dube, Coleman, Backlund on the team and a lot still have Tkachuk. They have Hanifin, Rasmus, Tanev in D and Markstrom in goal. That's the basis of a decent team around him IMO.

Christ.
Not to mention he is going to use localized steroids and growth hormone to build his muscles back up. millionaires don't rehab like general citizens. Eichel has stem cells kind of money.

I hope the Flames are doing everything they can to acquire Eichel. Back up the truck with assets and do whatever it takes. This type of player is never available for a trade, the Flames and other teams are ever so fortunate to be able to entertain the possibility of acquiring a player of this pedigree. It is a rare opportunity. Of all the games I've watched of Eichel, he is consistently one of the best players on the ice, if not the best player, consistently. As for his injury and the conversation and concern around it, I would imagine its something that can and will be taken care of properly for him to live and perform at a healthy level.

Blah blah blah… all the highlights in the world are meaningless right now. When he’s proven to be healthy enough to regain his form then let’s get on the bandwagon
