I really can't see what the hold up is as the market price should be set by now.

Lots of reasons why there could be a hold up.

The parties may not agree as to where Johnny fits into the market, which is quite common?

Johnny might want maximum money for 8 years, and the Flames would obviously prefer less?

Johnny might be reluctant to commit to Calgary until he sees where the direction of the team might take him?

Johnny might want to test the market and see what's out there, money and team wise, unless he gets what he considers a deal he simply cannot refuse?

Right now Johnny holds all the cards. He might want to simply squeeze every last cent alue out of that hand? Or not?

There may be an agreement largely in place that simply needs some fine tuning to get done?

I think if that's all it would take to get him he would already be a Flame. I am betting they don't want Monahan and probably want another high end prospect and another good pick.

Too much. I think the reason why Eichel hasn’t been traded yet is no team is willing to pay the 4 first round equivalent.

Agreed. I really have a hard time figuring out Monahans value, but I would hope he still could be moved for a young player and a pick.
