Ok. I have come around to this. I am 38. The Flames have gone past round 1 only 7 times during my entire life.
This team sucks. It will continue to suck. May as well do something bold and try to win.

 Go get Eichel.

I imagine there would be conditions attached to all picks involve that hinge on his ability to play.
Buffalo will need to mitigate some of that risk somehow.

It will be a complex trade in many aspects.

Let’s do a three-way trade with Buffalo and St. Louis. It just makes so much sense.

The status quo hurts.

Let’s try something different.

To me this is great news! The less we subtract from the cutest squad the better we are! Losing Chucky does not help our chances. It’s all in time! Of course money needs to be part of this to make it work but seriously it’s time to go all in.

List of Cup winning teams since 2010:
 2010 Chicago Blackhawks
 2011 Boston Bruins
 2012 Los Angeles Kings
 2013 Chicago Blackhawks
 2014 Los Angeles Kings
 2015 Chicago Blackhawks
 2016 Pittsburgh Penguins
 2017 Pittsburgh Penguins
 2018 Washington Capitals
 2019 St. Louis Blues
 2020 Tampa Bay Lightning
 2021 Tampa Bay Lightning

Every one of those teams had at least one "Eichel" - or, a "really elite player" - (Kane, Bergeron, Kopitar, Kane, Kopitar, Kane, Crosby, Crosby, Ovechkin, O'Riley, Kucherov, Kucherov).

My thinking on this is that, if the teams that are winning Cups all have an Eichel and we can't be bothered to ever draft high enough to pick an Eichel, and we can never pull off a trade to acquire an Eichel, and we can never sign an Eichel or "refuse to go over an internal individual player cap" to even be able to pay an Eichel...

Then, I mean, wtf are we even doing? Like, stop blowing smoke up my ass with this whole "our goal is to win a Cup" BS, and just tell me the truth: even with a salary cap, we're still just a small market team who's never really going to be able to compete with anyone - not because we can't, but because we won't.

Heck, I'm 76. I've been a fan since day 1. I've been through all the drought years and I think we're in for another one. This team hasn't improved enough for any of us to get excited about.

Only 7? I’m 27 and I’ve only seen them out of the first round twice.

Because of how much Eichel would cut into the cuteness? It is a good plan for maintaining some balance.

Eichel is a hand grenade of an acquisition. They're really gonna have to do this right. Because if he has to stop playing due to complications, you just blew your wad and have nothing to show for it except 10m sitting on LTIR for 5 years.

well Jay Feaster tried to fumble his way to your 2nd last Eichel. hell to Jay Feasters credit he was in on your last Eichel too- just not enough to pass up Tyler Wotherspoon-

I think I was having a fever dream but was there some kind of rumor about John Carlson and the Flames? for some reason it's stuck in my head but it might have been a Bot.

If reaching the finals is you benchmark for feeling good, that’s a pretty grim outlook.

The Flames can no longer fit Eichel while only giving up futures. They would need to somehow involve Monahan or Tkachuk at this point. Maybe Andersson or Mangiapane at the very least salary wise.

If missing the playoffs or not getting out of the first round is your benchmark for feeling good, that's a pretty lazy outlook.

I dont think we exceed the 10 percent over the cap rule if they made the move tonight. So there's wiggle room.

We definitely wouldn’t exceed the cap as of tonight. Still have 12 million in cap space currently.
