Armchair management is easy to do but I reckon it's a lot more tricky in real life. I'm no Treliving apologist at all but some of the good moves get dismissed with no sound reason because some people just want to complain about everything.
People rushing in to downplay Tanev's season tells you all you need to do about how the board generally looks at things.

The brightest spot on the team and people can't stand for a bit of deserved praise without needing to smother it out & belittle it.

I was one of the most obnoxious critics of the Tanev signing.
I think I might admit fault for that one. He's a smart player, and I could see him playing well even during the last few years of the deal.

Whoever his D partner is this year is going to be lucky.

Or Saad would be acceptable. The added LW depth could help if there was a trade in the works for say Tkachuk as just a random example.

Soooo, assuming Zadorov signs for $4,850,000 AAV the Flames are pretty much full up.

Vladar as the back up
Kinvall as the 3rd pair right hand D
Dube & Valimaki for 950k
Mackey for 850k
Gawdin & Phillips for $750k

$2,875,000 cap space left.

Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Mangiapane - Monahan - Coleman
Dillon Dube - Backlund - Pitlick
Milan Lucic - T. Lewis - Ritchie

Gawdin - Phillips

Hanifin - Tanev
Zadorov - Andersson
Valimaki - Kinvall

Mackey

Markstrom
Vladar

4.85 for Zadorov would be a huge overpayment. Can't imagine he should get anything starting with a 4 based on the contracts that were signed today.

His ask is apparently 5 x $5,580,000

He's a prime aged top 4 Dman.

It'll start with a 4 at least IMO

Sit out. Stop trying to build through free agency. Keep your cap space and find a good deal via trade. I did like the Zadarov move, similar to that. Lewis is no big deal, send him down if he's no good.

It doesn't really matter what kind of players they are. This is their retirement contract, stop being the team who's giving it out.

Well that is too bad then. I would rather have McCabe, or Bean, or a lot of other dman than Zadorov at that price.

This is exactly what this Coleman deal is. He cashed in and nobody here will be pleased.

I would of been happier seeing them give Hoffman an extra million a year than he received on that 3 year deal. I wonder what the 2nd best offer for Coleman was?

He sure did but that’s the game you have to play. The team really doesn’t have a whole lot to trade.

I think Coleman will quite likely become a fan favourite based on his style of play plus he has some skill.

I don’t think Sutter wants Hoffman

Because this team isn't good. Overpaying a middle six winger is not how you get over the hump.

yeah, worthwhile to kick the tires there for sure...Nick Ritchie also

Hoffman was signed for less than I thought...maybe Saad will be the same?

Is Hoffman a guy you could see thriving under Sutter? A 2-way player who goes to the dirty areas? There is a reason you pay more for such a player.

That's fair, but why not give Coleman 5.9 and 4 years then? I get the fact that Sutter and Treliving are likely gone in 2 years but #### me. These guys never learn.
