Still no word about a Treliving interview that I've heard...I think Treliving is up to something.

Brad Treliving to speak at 4:15PM
No Gaudreau extension announced, and no Eichel?
He fails. More of the same.

Imagine if he announced it at the presser. That would be cool.

To recap:
- He over-spent on a good depth forward
- He traded a 3rd round pick for a big, but generally kinda bad defenceman
- He traded a 3rd round pick for a goalie
- He signed a 4th line winger
This is literally just all Treliving ever does. He also now has his star forward in the last year of his contract where that star forward has a very restrictive NTC.

It's a recap of the day, and it's generally a very "Treliving" like day. That's all.

I think he got some great value in these moves and has filled big holes in the roster without totally blowing the budget. Each of these have high potential to be sneaky-good adds to the team. And with cap space still to burn - likely more to come.
You know the margins between winning and losing are so tight, you mix these additions in with a full season with Sutter........... it wouldn't surprise me at all if the Flames take a big step forward, just with these changes. Never mind the possibility that there could be another change or two still up Treliving's sleeve.
I thought Treliving had an excellent day today. For sure this team will be more difficult to play against, be more accountable in all zones of the ice, and will compete harder compared to what we saw last year. And they will be better defensively.
Still not convinced about the offence, and would still love to see something done there, but so far so good, IMO. I think this is a playoff team again.

I thought that's what he was doing all day? He did nothing to alter the core or top lines in any meaningful way.

I think I have to disagree, looking at the western conference I don’t see Calgary as a playoff team, as much as I would like to….

TIL that the #6 forward on a runaway Stanley Cup champion is ‘a good depth forward’.
I also learned that Markstrom and Tanev are not with the Calgary Flames, because the best goalie to hit UFA in years and a top-tier defensive defenceman are not on the list of things that are

Doesn't the Coleman signing address one of biggest top-6 holes on RW? That's a quality add that was better than any of the rotating pieces we saw there last year. And I like Ritchie! (But I think I'll like him even more on the 4th line.)

Who do you have in? Anaheim? No. Los Angeles? No. San Jose? No. Seattle? No. Vancouver? Maybe. Edmonton? Maybe. Calgary? They have to beat out one of Edmonton and Vancouver. The rest of the division is actually really weak. Calgary has to be considered a favorite to make the playoffs in the Pacific, without a doubt.

Has the league confirmed if the Wild Cards are continuing next season, or are they going to a straight 1-4 in each Division?

Blake Coleman does not address the hole we have on the top two lines of a winger that can score. Coleman is a great player but he is a very good 3rd line player.
