Plano really is part of Dallas, you'd never know where Plano starts and Dallas ends. A lot of tech companies have their HQ there.

For all intents and purposes, Plano is to Dallas as Tuscany/Cougar Ridge is to Calgary. Sure, there’s some administrative things that separate a place like Plano from Dallas proper, but it’s basically the same city from an outsider perspective.

It's not surprising that someone from Plano, Texas, would value wholesomeness in a city.

lol at all the false narratives and incorrect assertions, the worst being "on a contender like Tampa, he's a 3rd liner". Here's a tip: do a bit of research before you state garbage that is wrong - it literally only takes a few seconds.

Coleman was among Tampa's forwards in points - ahead of Cirelli, who everyone thinks is a legit 2nd liner. In fact, he outproduced him by almost 50% (31 pts to 22), DESPITE the fact that Cirelli got 2 minutes per game of PP time and Coleman got 20 seconds.

The whole 'he is a 2nd liner, he is a 3rd liner' is garbage anyway. I think a better test of contract value is the (overly simple) $1M/10 pts rule.

2018/19: 36 pts
2019/20: 40 pt pace
2020/21: 46 pt pace

(all with basically no PP time).

Those numbers put him at about $4.5M, and trending in the right direction. $4.9M, with the UFA premium, is pretty much on the mark. The only concern is term, and frankly, I say deal with that when it comes - according to most of the naysayers here, we'll be in a rebuild before then anyway.

Considering his speed, tenacity, and endless motor, what do people think about putting him with Gaudreau and Monahan?

Gaudreau - Monahan - Coleman
Tkachuk - Lindholm - Mangiapane
Dube - Backlund - Pitlick

I know some people will say 'he isn't a 1st liner', but it isn't about that, it's about creating lines that work. Adding energy to Gaudreau and Monahan might be just the tonic they need. And then there is good balance with the Lindholm line as well. Then the 3rd line is also solid.

More size, more speed, more tenacity. Would still like to get a RW, but this is a solid lineup for Mr Sutter to work with

I don’t know man, it looks way too similar to what we’ve seen the last few seasons.

Gaudreau and Monahan is no longer a thing.

Gaudreau with Tkachuk and Lindholm is the defacto top line. They were great down the stretch, better than the Johnny Mony pairing has been in years.

Gaudreau=Marner
Coleman= Hyman
Monahan=Matthews (it was working so well up until that point). But if you sub in Lindholm, maybe.

Gaudreau-Lindholm-Coleman
Tkachuk-Backlund-Mangiapane
Dube-X-Pitlick
Monahan traded for X plus

Agreed. But Monahan was hurt. And they haven't had the right RW wince Ferland (good Ferland).

Also, it allows Tkachuk to play with Lindholm, which creates 2 really good lines. If you keep it like last year, you have:

Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Manigiapane - Monahan - Coleman (not as sold on)

But of course, until we see them on the ice, it is al guesswork

I need me some of that P20 pickle juice. It's all sold out of course. Way to go CP, another jihad.

But how much do you really expect someone who turns 30 this year, and is on a 6 year deal, to trend upward?

I understand math is hard for you. Happens to many of the aged.

Maybe this will help you:

4 x 6 = 24 < 6 x 4.9 = 29.4

Hall < Coleman

Thoughts and prayers...

Nothing wrong with the player, but he's about to experience a whole new level of dislike over this contract. Even if he puts up 30 goals and 60 points for 4 years, there will be people hating the last years of the contract.

I'm not crazy about this, but I'm not bent out of shape either as I think he does add something to the team. So long as he's sort of healthy you should be able to move the last 2 years if you eat 50% of the salary. Advanced stats seem to suggest that there is something to his game.

It's a bit like the Frolik signing in that he was a good player for 3 of the years, and still okay in the 4th. He was a bit pricey at the time, but still did enough in those years that it wasn't out of line. As much as we all seem to think Flat Cap = massive rollback it doesn't. When the Flames signed Frolik in 2015, that cap for that year was projected to be 71 million. Guess what take his 4.3 salary and multiply it by 81.5/71...it's 4.9 million. So really it's similar to that contract, but one extra year.

Too many years, too much money. His yearly attempt at finding a top 6 winger through free agency and overpaying. This won't be his mess to clean up. Next guy will be saddled with this mess.

I don't think people will complain if he puts up 30 goals and 60 points for the first 4 years of this contract. Cause it probably means he'll still put up 20 goals and 40 points that 5th year.
