He may be more suited, but it would be a pretty big learning curve at this point (made harder by playing off wing).

Can’t see it, don’t have the cap space. Unless they found a suitor for Koskinen.

They could buy him out because they have an arbitration case.

Not really. Better for far side one timer. Not really for short side - the angle on your strong hand is better and the goalie has to travel farther, though the shot gets off a little slower.

ETA: plus Monahan’s preferred shot is an aimed wrister, not a one timer.

Koskinen probably going the other way as part of the package, if the deal happens with the oilers.

I've always thought he'd be a better winger, and since we cant seem to find one to play on the top line, why not give him a shot there?

Steinberg on the Fan:

“The one thing you can say about the three Western Canada teams is that they aren’t worried about 3 or 4 years down the road”

…a pile of bad teams thinking they’re good enough to do what exactly in the short term?

I think they should play Kylington RW, because he’s fast, offensive minded with a good shot, but what do I know. Not a RHS but oh, well.

For the Oilers it's valid. They need to maximize their contention time while McDavid is in his prime, including to de-risk him just saying it eff it - and wanting out.

The Canucks and Flames though have followed the same pattern and made the same mistakes - with Vancouver only about 1-2 years behind the Flames in that cycle (but doing their best to catch up!)

That is why I am Eichel or bust. If it is blows up then it blows up and the Flames rebuild quicker.

I think a great example of this is Columbus. They absolutely went for it. It didn't work. What now? Kekalainen is making amazing rebuilding trades.

Looks like there will be a big competition for the last place for the next 2 years. Few teams are rebuilding or quick retooling.

Bob saying that the Eichel talks are super soft, very quiet.

Doesnt seem like it is imminent.

Agreed, it forces the issue one way or the other. Seems to be the only way out sadly
