Possible contender for 2 to 3 yrs while absolute trash the next 3 yrs and picking up high draft picks.... or 8th-10th place all 6 yrs. It actually does kind of make sense to just push your chips in and go for broke every few yrs.

A friend who is an orthopedic surgeon that specializes in back and neck said this to me (one man's opinion but he's good):
"(If he gets cervical disc replacement surgery) he should be good. There are several football players that had CDR and were able to return. Although an argument for fusion instead of replacement is that fusion may be more stable for contact sports"

Gaudreau-Eichel-Dube
Mangiapane-Lindholm-Coleman
Pelletier-Backlund-Pitlick
Lucic-Lewis-Ritchie
Hanifin-Tanev
Zadorov-Kylington
Mackey-Andersson
Markstrom
Zamboni Driver
Tkachuk/Valimaki/1st - just daydreaming over here.
Monahan for a better 1st.
Edit : Apologies Flamesgod, when I wrote out the lineup, Monahan was mysteriously missing, and ended up in the trade scenario. Then Tkachuk was missing. They both showed up during a stealth edit, slightly hungover.

I understand that Eichel is an elite talent, but he also has a F'ed up neck. You are looking at loosing him for at least half a year if not a full year to LTIR. Even then there is no guarantee he is ever going to be 100% again. I am only trading for him if we can send our own hurt bag center Monahan back as part of the deal.
Monahan/Valimaki/Dube/2022 First would be about the max I would consider.

The surgery he wants involves a 2-3 month recovery time.

If you acquire Eichel its because he is your franchise centre for five plus years. Missing half a year isn't the end of the world. The Flames have doctors who would be able to make a determination before the trade goes through

Where is the Johnny extension? That’s the one thing that they can’t miss out on at this stage. Walking him to free agency/now trying to trade him with a 5-team NTC can’t be the path…

I hope this is a signal that they have some basic framework in mind and general agreement on the important stuff - and that it's now just working out the details. Meaning there is mutual confidence that it'll get done.

If the 2022 first rounder is part of the deal, I'd want it to be lottery protected because you'll potentially be without Eichel for half the season, and you'll also be without whatever you gave up to get Eichel.

This team has never drafted higher than 4th.
Unless all our top players die, they’re not finishing bottom-10.
I would hope they could at least keep things afloat long enough knowing Eichel is eventually going to join them - it’d give the entire first half of the year a “waiting for Goku” vibe.

Lottery protected unless Eichel plays 70+ games. If we have Eichel for that many games and are in the lottery things went terribly wrong

Johnny and his agent wanted to see where the market was at after free agency before negotiating his new contract.

They also wanted to gain some more power before truly sitting at the table.
