Took Vanecek who he probably has to move for peanuts after signing Driedger and Grubauer.

Could have taken Dillion who turned into 2 seconds.

Agreed, he is very good.

Although if he was the GM of the Flames there would be a number of posters here who would want to run him out of town (likely the same ones who want Treliving fired). After all, he’s been in the seat in CBJ for 8 years, and has only gotten to the second round once!! He’s actually worse than Treliving!!!

Twice, hence my “slightly better”. 3 years out (including last year), 3 first round exits, 2 second round exits.

Some of the things that he's done
- He's traded high picks for aging players. Examples the team's first pick in 2019 was #104 (no 1st, 2nd or 3rd). He also didn't have a 1st in 2017.
- He's allowed players to walk for nothing
- The team has two playoff round wins in his time as GM
- Up until this draft the team doesn't have a great prospect base with a rather lack of elite talent (they did a nice job this year)
- The team used their 1st last year for a "off the board pick".

How is this different than BT except that the team is now seemingly admitting and committing to a re-build. But up until this off-season what are people celebrating? Is it just the fact that he's a "rogue GM that plays by his own rules"?

Well there you have it. Fire Treliving immediately.

He had to give up PLD and Jones, and managed to still be icing (on paper) a competitive team, with a good stable of prospects and picks. Just all around good management.

Edit : his team was horrible for a year because he let to cornerstones walk in order to make a playoff run. Fearless.

			13.65M to sign Zadarov, Dube, Mackey and Valimaki - I'd probably put that at close to 6M in available cap-space assuming you go two years on Vali/Dube in the 1-1.5 range.
 Zadarov = $4M'ish
 Dube = QO is 840K
 Valimaki = QO is $875K
 Mackey = QO is $875

3 bodies at $2.1 mil gives the Flsmes a ton of space to do something still. Probably a trade though. Eichel? Cmon Brad!
