I think Buffalo's unwillingness to produce Eichel's medical records to the teams making offers is hurting the process. Obviously they need to produce them before a trade in finalized, but the mystery of not knowing makes it difficult for teams to put up an offer. The secrecy makes me wary as well. If Buffalo was confident that he will recover 100%, they should just let the teams that are making offers see the medical records for themselves. There would be no reason to hide anything until an offer is on the table.

You also have to think that interested teams are asking for some salary retention.

My guess the reason its slow to finish the trade is simply the asking price is huge....
Team(s) are working it to see if the Sabres are willing to lower the price.

Now they are assuming all the risk. If he doesn't play and play well for them, his value would plummet. His value is likely never higher than now and by now I mean a month ago. K Adams looks like he fumbled this one as more teams take themselves out by using their cap space.

Which they won't get.
10m is going to be the cost of acquisition on top of the assets they give up to Buffalo.

Scoring Winger

I'm hoping this is like the Kawhi trade...
Star in American market with shady medical history and poor team relations gets traded to the good guys for a heartbreaking though fair package, then a championship is won.

I'm also curious about this. Eichel seems less valuable the longer that this goes on. Once he has one of the surgeries, aren't teams going to just wait to see how he recovers?

I like what Mike Futa said earlier that the return Kevyn Adams got in the Ristolainen trade has "created a monster" with Adams thinking what he could get for Eichel based on the return for Risto.

The Sabres are going to have to be the ones compromising here if they really want to move Eichel.
What would the Flames active roster look like for example with Eichel on LTIR for a year or more?

Yeah the way Buffalo is handling this is not like a team that's in a hurry to make a deal. What team is going to put forth their best offer without seeing his medical records?

Lifetime Suspension

I feel like Buffalo is pretty much being cornered into making a deal from Jack's camp, and the longer they wait to decide on one, the less suitors and less return they'll receive.
I also feel like Treliving and others recognize this and will try to swoop in at just the right time to make a deal that doesn't set them back much at all in the way of assets.

MORE than a year? That does not seem remotely likely.

They probably are not in a big hurry. The Sabres still have months left to make a deal before the new season starts, and even then can still negotiate with teams as they jockey for early positioning in the standings. I doubt this gets done anytime soon—I sure neve expected that Eichel would get moved today, or even this week.

From another thread, Kevin Weekes seems to be saying John Gibson is available.

That would:
A) Fix Colorado's goaltending position
B) Firmly remove Eichel from the Ducks plans, right?

Gibson to Colorado feels like one of those out of right field moves that Colorado would make.
And yeah if they trade Gibson I think Anaheim would be out on Eichel (honestly not sure why they were involved to start with)

Because they didn't get Jack Eichel, and traded their franchise goalie.
